Boyd, Shirley Marie

BOYDE, SHIRLEY WDecember 14, 1930 – October 30, 2014
at the age of 83 years

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014 at 2 pm at the Gleneden Community Hall, 4901 50th Ave. NW, Salmon Arm.

Shirley, a loving and devoted wife, mother and community worker finally gave into failing health at Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops in the early hours of Oct. 30, 2014.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Bud Boyd, her son Scott (LaVonne) Boyd of Salmon Arm, siblings Tom (Cecile) Jones of Pickering Ontario, Jerry (Debbie) Jones of Salmon Arm, Paul (Marg) Jones of Wiarton, Ontario, and Elaine (Mike) Kohler of Richmond Hill, Ontario, as well as nieces Wendy, Sandi, Sarah and nephews Allan, Dylan and Travis.

She was predeceased by her parents Wilda and Earl Jones and brother Harry Jones, all of Wiarton, Ontario.

Shirley was born in Wiarton Ontario. She was a caring, hardworking and determined lady. She was a great cook and over the years had an interest in a number of hobbies such as hunting, knitting, sewing, pottery, reading books and gardening, particularly her flowers.

During her working years, she was involved as a cook on Great Lakes Boats, secretarial work, strawberry and raspberry farmer and she was a member of the Gleneden Ladies Club for many years.

She has left a great hole in our family but we are at peace knowing that her suffering is over. We know she will be watching over us and helping us along in her own gentle way.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Shuswap Lake Hospital Foundation.

  1. Dear Bud and Scott,
We would like to express our sorrow on the passing of Shirley. At the time of her memorial service we were up at Fort St. James celebrating Chris’ 40th birthday with him. We first met Shirley when you had the raspberry patch by the acreage on 50th Street. Then she looked after Chris quite often before he went to school and I was back teaching. He loved to spend time with her, and we always appreciated her kind , friendly ways. She was also a wonderful supporter of the Gleneden Association and contributed much to that neighborhood. We remember her fondly.

Our thoughts & prayers go out to all of you in your loss of a beautiful lady! We share some fond memories of visits to your home. Those raspberries were delicious when we could sneak into Shirley’s patch without Bud catching us!
