July 27, 1932 – December 29, 2022
at the age of 90 years:
The family of Joan Maureen Davies (nee Kingsbury) is sad to announce that she passed away on December 29, 2022, at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital at 90 years of age.
Born in Peace River, Alberta on July 27, 1932, Joan attended King Edward High School in Vancouver and then graduated from the first UBC Nursing Program. She worked at Vancouver General Hospital until she and Bob were married in 1955. Their honeymoon at Sun Valley was the beginning of a life of skiing together.
Along with raising five busy children, Joan taught swimming lessons and Aquafit at the Four Seasons Pool in Prince George. Joan was instrumental in developing the Adapted Aquatic program, receiving an Outstanding Community Service Award from the City of Prince George in 1993. Retiring to Sicamous in 1994, Joan and Bob enjoyed spending time on their boat the U ‘n Me. Joan continued to teach swimming and Aquafit classes at the pool in Salmon Arm.
The opportunity for fitness and the camaraderie that dragon boating offered was another huge part of Joan’s life. The Shuswap Silver Dragons travelled to the 55+ B.C. Games in Richmond in 2009, winning a bronze medal.
Joan is survived by her five children, Patti (Tony), Robyn, Howard (Joan), Shelley (John) and Jayson. She will be remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A family gathering to honour Joan and Bob will be held during the summer of 2023 at Silver Star Mountain.

at the age of 83 years:
Karl was born the 3rd child of Emma and Karl Soellig September 19, 1939, in Halberstadt, Germany.
He completed his schooling and apprenticeship as a Machinist in East Germany and then was allowed to join his parents and younger brother Wolfgang in Idar-Oberstein in West Germany. In 1961 he relocated to Stuttgart where he met his sweetheart Rosemarie, and they married in 1962. Their son Joerg was born in 1963 and Frank followed in 1965.
In 1975 he made a big life change when he decided instead of moving to Frankfurt he would relocate his family to Canada. An idea he had already considered before marriage. They arrived on October 20, 1975 in Grande Prairie, Alberta where Karl had secured work at Steel Industries.
They were welcomed by the Grande Prairie Society of German Canadians and had many good friends and years of activities. He started his own machine shop and was well known for solving problems and fixing anything that was brought to him. His motto was “if you can dream it I can fix it”.
His love of skiing got him involved in Ski Patrol. He also got into soaring and bought his own glider and spent many summers at a gliding camp in Cowley, AB.
After retirement Karl and Rosemarie moved to Blind Bay in 2001 and enjoyed living in “paradise”
Karl was predeceased by his parents and sisters Gerda 1977, Hanna 2021 and Wolfgang 2022. Karl will be missed by his wife of 60 years and his 2 sons and their families.

November 6, 1947 – December 28, 2022
at the age of 75 years:
Geraldine, known better as Gerri, passed away at the age of 75 after a fierce battle with cancer in Salmon Arm, BC. She was born in Belleville Ontario on November 6, 1947. In the 1980’s she relocated with her family from Ontario to become a long term resident of Canoe, BC.
She is predeceased by her parents Lillian and Gerald, as well as her husband of 50 years James and brother in law John. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Shirley, children Kenneth (Christa), Robert, grandchildren Kelsey (Sascha), Jayme, Logan, Riley and Destiny, great grandchildren Lily, and Cataleya, as well as nieces Karen, Janice and their children.
Gerri was a kind and loving woman that spent many years babysitting children of Canoe, attending the local farmers market as a vendor with her late husband, and was a dedicated supporter of various local charities.
We the family wish to thank the Shuswap Lake General Hospital Oncology Department, Pioneer Lodge staff, and nurses/doctors of SLGH that provided care and kindness through this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Gerri to the Oncology Department via the Shuswap Hospital Foundation.

at the age of 89 years:
Celebration of Life will be held April 29, 2023 at Fifth Avenue Seniors Center located at 170 – 5th Avenue SE, Salmon Arm, BC from 1 pm to 4 pm.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful Mom on Christmas Day, just days short of her 90th birthday.
Mom was born to Jonathan and Lillian Waters in Ashmont, Alberta and was the youngest of 8 children. She married Kenneth Clarke on April 29, 1949 and had five children.
She is survived by her children Donna (George), Dale (Trish), Ivor (Susan), Roy (Linda) and Brian (Julie). 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews
Mom loved her Tuesday card games with the girls, bingo, the casino and the time she spent with her family and friends.
Mom has requested no funeral, however there will be a Celebration of Life later in the Spring. Family and friends attended the New Year’s Eve Bingo Bash at the Casino in her honor.
She was predeceased by her husband Ken, and her companion Roy Johnston, great grand-daughter Jerrica Clarke, her parents, and all her siblings.
Many thanks to the doctors and nurses who helped with her care and her Piccadilly Terrace family and friends.
