at the age of 81 years

With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle at home in Canoe, BC after a short, hard-fought battle with ALS on Wednesday, May 15, 2013.

Russ was born on September 10th, 1931, the 4th of 11 children to Russell Charles and Sarah Jane McColman.  Predeceased by his parents; brothers and sisters:  Clinton, Ronald, Vera, Earl, Corrine, Bruce, Doris, Doreen (infant).

Left to mourn his devoted wife Doreen of 58 years, daughter Katharine Hodge of Kamloops, BC and son Lonny of Edson, AB.  He took great joy doting on his grand-daughters, Jennifer (Mike) of 100 Mile House BC and Stephanie (Adam) of Salmon Arm BC.   Great-grandchildren Gaby & Logan Meidlinger, Levi & Lincoln Hodge of Salmon Arm and Kate Sterling of 100 Mile House were his pride and joy.

Also survived by sister Carol (Elmer) Reihl and brother Alvie (Delores) McColman, sisters-in-law Dorothy McColman and Dorothy (Beau) Erickson and brothers-in-law Ronald (Lois) Ahlskog and Butch (Gail) Ahlskog and numerous nieces and nephews.

Russ enjoyed listening to country music, watching Canucks and Blue Jays games and gardening but his biggest passion was golf which he played with integrity and humour and where he loved to spend time with family and friends.

He was a kind and generous person who will be greatly missed and long-remembered.

No service as per his wishes.

  1. Russ was very special and a pleasure to be with. It was nice to spend time with both of you on the golf course, and being around him during his faithful attendance at the Senior’s League golf games each week was always fun!
Our condolences to you and your family.

  2. Dear Doreen, Kathy, Lonnie:

Russ was a quiet gentle man, a cherished friend. His caring nature for family and friends was well documented. As couples, we (Ken) spent many fun filled golf games on each occasion. The “gardener” provided us with fresh vegies each summer – we felt special -yummy!!

Enjoy the wonderful memories, share them with family and friends, you will have many tears and laughs. Doreen, I am only a phone call away.

Thinking of you Kathy and Lonnie, take care.

    Loretta
