Altwasser, Joan Mae

altwasser-wApril 5, 1932 – December 3, 2016
at the age of 84 years

With sadness, we share news of the passing of Joan Altwasser (nee Pechey). She slipped away on Saturday December 3.  Joan is survived and dearly loved by her husband of 58 years Arthur, children Diane (Mike) and Glen as well as grandchildren Hannah, Trevor and Adam. Joan is also survived by her brother Gordon (Phyllis).
Joan was a passionate quilter and gardener as well as being devoted to supporting the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.  The organization works to better the lives of African children, orphaned by AIDS, left in the care of their grandparents.
Joan cherished the time she spent with the area’s many quilters and was a beloved member in the quilting community. She was one of the founders of the Blind Bay Good Time Quilters Group and an active contributor to the Shuswap Quilter’s Guild. Her friends from both groups were a great support and comfort to both Joan and her family through her last days.
Joan’s compassion and strength continues to inspire us. She will be greatly missed.
By request there will be no formal service.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers please make donations to the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.  Donations can be made by either making a cheque payable to the following:
