Harry Wallace Clarke was born in Edmonton, Alberta on January 13, 1937, to Thomas (Tommy) and Donalda Clarke.  He was later joined by 9 siblings raised on a farm near Castor, AB.  He passed away on April 27, 2023, in Salmon Arm, BC at the age of 86 years.  Predeceased by his son Gordon-Shane, Brothers Brian and Dave and sister Patricia.  Survived by his wife Darlene and 6 children: Cary, Ken (Maria), Darcy (Tammy), Debbie (Tom), Bob (Joan) and Daniel.  15 grandchildren: Nicole, Matthew, Carla, Michael, Curtis, Stephanie, Aaron, Jordan, Kayla, Austin, Kelsey, Jayden, Brooklyn, Jax and Brianna and 6 great grandchildren: Mylee, Reeghan, Samantha, John, Jasmin, & Ilona. 

Harry and Darlene met in 1958 in Dawson Creek, BC.  After a few years were married February 27, 1959.  And moved their growing family north to Fort Nelson, BC.  They spent over 40 years growing their family, faith, and businesses.  Harry served as the first Mayor of Village of Fort Nelson, appointed in 1972, serving two terms.  He returned to civic politics again in 1999 for a single term serving as Mayor of the Town of Fort Nelson and was influential in establishing the Northern Rockies Regional District serving as Chair.

He and Darlene successfully built businesses with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic.  Businesses included Northwest Plumbing & Heating, BnH Contracting, Northern Propane, Fort Nelson Home Furnishings, Clarke Cleaners, Springtime Garden Center, Northern Vision Health Foods, Fort Nelson Dry Cleaners and Clarke Plaza.

Harry was active in many personal pursuits, an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast including jockey, fastball, and curling.  He had a deep personal faith and belief in Jesus as Lord.  Harry lived a life of strength, grace, and love for many.  His dedication to the Lord was always on display by his love for others, giving spirit, joyful persona and the deep relationships were formed throughout his life.

Harry and Darlene relocated to Salmon Arm in 2005.  In later years Harry filled his time developing real-estate, commercial properties and enjoyed winters in California. 

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the two good Samaritans from Uptown Askew’s who assisted Darlene to call 911 and care for Harry at the time of his passing.

    I’m so sorry to hear about Harry’s passing. I remember him as a sincere, hardworking and lovely man and know he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. May you all be comforted and find peace in your many wonderful memories of times past.
