Clay, Helen Alice (Flater)

CLAY, HELEN WSeptember 22, 1916 – July 19, 2016

at the age of 99 years

Helen passed away peacefully at Serenity Acres in Chase, BC with family members and special caregivers by her side.
Helen was predeceased by her father and mother, Arthur and Mabel Flater, husband Ralph, son Wayne, brother Fredrick and son-in-law Jonathan Schwartz.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters Winn Schwartz and Merle (Bob) Kroeker; grandchildren Melissa Chen, Elana Lutz, Dana Kroeker, Tess Kroeker; nine great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.
To capture the essence of Helen, we need only reflect on the esteem in which she was held by a multitude of friends in Herbert, SK, Castlegar, BC, Kamloops, BC and Chase, BC.  She was caring, forgiving, generous, supportive and most definitely energetic.  This was evident in her quiet commitment to the hospital auxiliary, thrift shops and numerous other community organizations.
We note too, that her love of curling, golf and gatherings with friends and family are legendary.
The world is a far better place because of her time here.
An act of kindness would be a fitting tribute to Helen’s memory.

  1. Our family has such wonderful memories of Helen and Ralph. Helen was a good friend to Mom-all the times Helen would stop by our house for tea with Mom. I remember pushing Mom in her wheelchair to Helen and Ralph’s for supper. She was such a kind person always willing to bake buns for any occasion. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Helen’s family. She was so proud and loved each of you so much.

  2. Fond thoughts of Helen, Ralph and our “brother” Wayne from the Lightle family
