It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Margaret Aileen Cruickshank on July 1, 2016 in Salmon Arm, B.C., at the age of 87 years.  Aileen was born on April 26, 1929, in Windsor, Ontario.  At the age of 6, her family moved to Owen Sound, Ontario, where she was raised and educated.  On June 26, 1950, Aileen married the love of her life, Alvin Stewart Cruickshank, who pre-deceased her in July, 2001, after 51 years of marriage. She is also pre-deceased by her parents, Ada and Jay O’Connor, and her brother, Leon, and his wife, Mary.  Aileen was caring, generous, and supportive to her only daughter, Terry Adair (Jack), and a role model and loving friend to her grandson, Jamie, all of Salmon Arm, B.C.  She is also survived by her brother William (Barb) of Owen Sound, Ontario;  her sister Mary McLean (Alf) of Kelowna, B.C.;  her cousin Ethel Eveneshen (George) of Salmon Arm, B.C.;  and her sisters-in-law:  Betty Huston (the late Eric), Eileen Cruickshank  (the late Robert), Alma Cruickshank (the late Stewart), Margaret Bell (the late Ronald), Doris Rochford (the late Cecil), and her brother-in-law Jack Cruickshank (Bette), all residing in Ontario; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Aileen and Alvin spent many happy hours skating, dancing, playing badminton, hiking the Bruce Trail, traveling, and camping at Sauble Beach.  Aileen worked many years for Emergency Measures Organization, as a secretary and licensed radio operator.  In 1989, they moved to Salmon Arm, B.C.  to be near their family.  From that time on, Aileen enjoyed curling, playing cards with her friends, and was an avid member of the Salmon Arm Lawn Bowling Club.  Aileen was a devout parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a long time member of the Catholic Women’s League.  Her life revolved around her family, who meant everything to her.  A Prayer Service will be held for Aileen on Monday, July 18, at 7:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, July 19, at 10:00 am, celebrated by Father George LaGrange OMI.  Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Owen Sound, Ontario, where she will be buried in the family plot with her mother, father, and Alvin, in the early fall.  A special thank you to Dr. Kim Grieve, Aileen’s long time physician.
