Ewing, Winifred “Winnie” Westwood

December 21, 1942 – March 12, 2025
at the age of 82 years:

Ewing, Winifred “Winnie” Westwood, of Salmon Arm, BC and formally of Kelowna, BC, born December 21, 1942 in Ayr, Scotland passed away peacefully March 12, 2025 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital with her family by her side.  She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Charlie Ewing and her son John Ewing.

Winnie, Charlie and their three children arrived from Scotland to Toronto in 1970 and they moved to BC in 1979.  Winnie had several careers:  accounting, real estate, but her favourite was at Costco where she was a fixture for 20 years.  Mom also played an amazing game of golf and was a member at Sunset Ranch in Kelowna, BC.  She enjoyed scrapbooking, gardening and volunteering at the Salmon Arm Thrift Store.

Winnie was a little woman with a huge heart and an adventurous spirit.  She will be sadly missed by all that she touched.  Rest in peace Mom.

The family will be planning a celebration of life at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Winnie’s memory to the Lung Cancer Canada Foundation.

  1. I only got to meet Winnie virtually, through video chats she would have with my mom, but I felt like I already knew her so well, as I heard so many stories of this wonderful woman and friend. Winnie was just as sweet, kind and caring as I imagined her to be and I was so happy that they were able to reunite. My thoughts are with her family and friends in this difficult time.

  5. Winnie, my dearest friend, this world can never be the same for me without you in it.
You’re with your beloved Charlie again and I must be happy for you but I will miss you so much.
Rest in peace my best friend till I come join you and we’ll go cycling in the sky.

  6. It is with a sad heart that my former Scrapbook buddy of many years passed away so quietly as she had already become. My last visit with her was at Chartwell/Carrington Place in Vernon, I thought surely we’d get in at least 1 more visit, alas it wasn’t to be. Rest assured Winnie, my friend, you will be in my thoughts as your many pictures are in my scrapbook albums. An if/when I get to another retreat, you will be there too – in spirit. God Bless – my friend.

  7. My condolences to Winnie’s family, I worked with your mother in Costco during her 20 years of service. I used to play pranks with Winnie when she worked in the clothing section, I would get off my forklift and sneak behind the clothing, racks and pop my head out when she went to hang some clothing on the racks, I then paid the price when she tore into me while we were both laughing. We had a lot of good laughs, I even remember your dad with your mom at the Costco Christmas parties, damn, we laughed and had a lot of good times. A lot of coworkers from Kelowna, Costco, cherished and respected your mother because she was a great lady to work with. Winnie is now on a different level of life and on a new journey that we will all take one day. we’ll see you again, Winnie, until then, say hi to Charlie for us.

  8. Blessings for a strong and caring lady My condolences to her family.
