October 24, 1950 – November 6, 2024
at the age of 74 years:
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Barry Russel Gildersleve. He passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 in Salmon Arm at the age of 74 years.
Barry will be warmly remembered by his children, Nathan Gildersleve (Rachel), Michael Gildersleve, Corbett Gildersleve, and Amy Leenheer (Duane); sisters, Jill Gildersleve and Debbie Gildersleve; parents-in-law, Gilbert and Orma Johnson; sisters-in-law, Gloria Alexander (Rick), Shirley Kerby (Jeff and family), and Evelyn Johnson; step-children, Colleen Smith, Brian Smith (Jen), Doug Smith, and Candice Davison (Andrew); eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a large extended family and network of dear friends.
Barry was pre-deceased by the love of his life, Linda; parents, Joyce and Frank Gildersleve; and sisters, Megan Gildersleve and Karen Hart.
The majority of Barry’s working life was spent as a welder, a profession he greatly enjoyed. He later became a welding instructor, and then chief welding instructor at BCIT in Burnaby. In his spare time, Barry loved practicing landscape photography, attending concerts (the annual Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival was a favourite), and cooking delicious meals for loved ones (his home affectionately became known as “Barry’s Bistro”).
Barry was smart, witty, and very soft-hearted. All who knew him saw a kind and gentle soul. He had a wonderful laugh, gave the best hugs, and always smelled so good. He loved puns and peanut brittle. We’re going to miss him so very much.
Sympathies to Barry’s family , he will be missed by so many. Treasure all those memories of a great guy i know we will . Sending hugs to everyone .
I didn’t have a close relationship with my Dad, especially in the last few years, but I will miss his dinners and the hugs, and the puns that made my physically groan. Of course, I shared it with others to spread the pain and humor. I’m happy that he had a loving relationship with Linda and a close relationship with her family in and outside of Salmon Arm. I have no doubt that he had many friends within the church and Salmon Arm community. I wish you all the best.
Barry was a very pleasant man; it was a pleasure to get to know him during the last few years. We will miss him!
So sorry to hear of Barrys passing. He was a dear friend and I sat with him every sunday at church. Would love to hear from some of the family
