Gottschling, Alvin George

June 6, 1937 – May 11, 2018
at the age of 80 years.

We invite you to share in celebrating the life of Dr. Alvin Gottschling on Saturday, July 28 at 2:00 pm at the Fellowship Baptist Church, 651 7th Ave E, Prince Rupert, BC.  Reception to follow.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Alvin Gottschling, at Shuswap Lake General Hospital, on May 11, 2018, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.  Born June 6, 1937, he has gone home to be with his Lord and Saviour just shy of his 81st birthday.  He will be greatly missed by the many lives he touched.
He is survived by his loving wife, Melitta, of 58 years, his three daughters, Angela (Pascal) Plessis of Salmon Arm, BC, Bernita (Bart) Carrigan of Kamloops, BC, Carmen (Vince) Aceto of Prince Rupert, BC, as well as his eight beautiful grandchildren, Amy, Nathan, Alexa, Aaron, Calum, Mataya, Noah, and Coen, his brothers: Dr. Kurt Gottschling (Martha) of Burnaby, BC, Dr. Gerd Gottschling (Bev) of Kitimat, BC and their families, brother in law: Dr. Thomas Linke of Germany and his family, numerous cousins and their families as well as his walking buddy Rucker.
Many thanks to all the wonderful health care providers, friends, and so many others who accompanied him on his journey.

  1. Melitta and family , please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of Alvin. He was a great classmate of the Class of ’68. We were so glad to have seen him at past reunions, and did miss him at the recent 50th. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  2. Very sad to learn about Alvin’s passing. He was a well-liked member of the University of Alberta Dental Faculty – Class of ’68 which celebrated its 50th reunion in late May at Jasper Park Lodge. Many classmates asked about Alvin as our last contact with him was last Fall when we knew he was under treatment. Melitta, please accept the condolences of all his classmates. We were very sorry he could not join us in Jasper. Please add our names to the long list of individuals who will acknowledge his life and career as part of his ‘Celebration of Life’.

  4. So sorry to hear about Dr. Alvin Gottschlings passing. My heartfelt condolences to the family. It’s so hard to lose someone we love. Alvin was such a loyal, empathetic, experienced and confident dentist. I always enjoyed our time working together. He made me laugh, never held back expressing his opinion. Colin used to enjoy meeting him at the yacht club and enjoyed the fishing and hunting conversations. Please know your in our thoughts and prayers.

  5. Very sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Gottschling. Our thoughts are with Melitta and family. I really enjoyed my years of working in his office. He was a great Dr. to work for. He will be missed.
