It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stella (Stephanie) Kapitan, nee Samec, on September 14th, 2014 at the age of 97, with her daughter Patricia by her side.  Stella was born on October 21st, 1916 and grew up with five brothers and two sisters in a farming community in Manitoba. She married Stan Kapitan, and moved to Port Arthur, ON (Thunder Bay) where she worked as a waitress and raised her family.  In 1965, they moved to BC (Malakwa/Sicamous area) looking for a better life.

She will also be remembered by all her friends in the Sicamous area.

  1. Hi Patricia & Don, my husband Rod and I are so sorry to hear about your Mom’s passing. My mother was Minnie Samec Hallem , twin sister of Steffie Synychych — they were the oldest Samec twins. Your mother will always be alive in your heart. Memories: We used to play together at Uncle Paul & Auntie Stella’s house; I believe you also came out to Winnipeg. Just so you are aware, your mother was one of Jacob’s FOURTEEN children. My grandfather, Harry, was the oldest, and left Hadashville at age 13 to work in Winnipeg as times were hard. I would love to hear from you.

  2. Patricia and Don, our deepest condolences on the passing of your Mom. I will truly miss her and treasure the wonderful times we were blessed to have shared. From our family visits when we were children to bringing our children to her home in Sicamous and walking down the beach together or playing crib. Your Mom is now resting with her husband and family in heaven. God bless and watch over you and your families during this time. Until we meet again!
