Steve passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on October 26, 2023, surrounded by close family and friends, at the Salmon Arm Hospital.

He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Alice McInnis in December 2022. He leaves to mourn his two sisters Judy Pearce and Erin Mcneil and his stepbrothers Phil and David Hale, all from Vancouver, his daughters Debbie and Karen McInnis, his grandchildren Brianne, Natasha, Kaeden and Jazzlyn from Alberta, along with many nieces and nephews. He also was chosen to be grandfather to Brooklyn who visited him weekly. He leaves behind friends from his many life adventures.

Steve grew up in Vancouver and joined the Canadian Armed Forces when he was 17 years old and served for 37 years. He met Margaret when she was hired to care for his ailing mother. Steve was transferred to Germany with the military and quickly sent word for Margaret to join him and get married. It was December 1964 when they married and they had many adventures together during their 58 years.  Steve took great pride in his career with the military and it allowed him and the family to travel and live in many places around the world. He always tried to live his life to the fullest and stay positive.

He loved his country and volunteered his time in retirement with many organizations.  He was the first Canadian recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize medal awarded by the Finnish Army. He was recently awarded the Queen Jubilee award for community service and volunteerism. He was the president of his strata and the Canoe Seniors Center, he volunteered for citizens on patrol, the Enderby Legion, the Conservative Party and Lakeside Manor. He touched many lives in the community both near and far. He was a dedicated family man who fathered not just his own two children but also was a positive role model to many other family members. He believed in living life to the fullest and never stopped his desire to seek new adventures. Steve had so much to offer and he will be missed by many.
