July 05, 2022:
Wilma Jean Menssa, 67 (formerly Howe, maiden name Smith, from Kingston, Ontario) and Kelly Menssa 60, (from North Battleford, Saskatchewan), were suddenly taken too soon in a tragic accident west of Sorrento, BC on Tuesday July 5, 2022. The family is devastated and in shock to lose them so tragically. Kelly and Jean were perfect together and were truly a couple others could learn from. They were loving and patient parents and grandparents. They were also everyone’s favorite aunt and uncle. Both Kelly and Jean were retired Calgary Correction Officers who bought property in Blind Bay and moved there for their retirement. They leave behind four children: Tara, Chris, Brandon and Jessilyn. As well as eleven grandchildren: Devon, Gabriel, Mya, Xavier, Greyson, Elysia, Emily, Addilyn, Amelia, Sautonya and Sebastian and their dog Sasha who absolutely loved and adored Jean and Kelly. To remember Jean and Kelly a service is being held at Quaaout Lodge at 1 pm on Saturday July 23. Donations can be made to legacyplacesociety.com a mental health organization specifically for Peace Officers, Fire Fighters, Emergency Medical Services, 911 Dispatch workers and Military Personnel.
I am heartbroken at the news of Jean and Kelly’s tragic passing. When I last spoke to Kelly, he was just on his last days at CCC as a Correctional Peace Officer, and he was so looking forward to retirement. He and Jean were fantastic, stand-up people, and I wish their families all the strength they will need in the coming days, weeks and months.
Sending my deepest Condolences, I worked with both Jean and Kelly for years in Calgary and I will miss them both dearly! They were both such kind souls! Thoughts and prayers to the family!
My condolences to the family of Jean and Kelly. It was a pleasure to work with both of them. Two good people
My husband, Shon Martin is Jean’s brother. To say we are devastated by the tragic loss of Jean an Kelly is an understatement. They will be missed immensely. Our thoughts and prayers for their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other siblings and their large network of friends. Jean and Kelly are loved by many because they impacted many lives and helped in whatever way they could. Soar with the eagles dear ones!
As Jean’s sister I send my heartfelt prayers and love to all my family. Jean and I didn’t have an easy life growing up, but we did the best we could. As teens do, we dreamt often of meeting our Prince Charming. Jean left Ontario for Calgary where she met hers.. Kelly Menssa. He loved my sister unconditionally, and she him. They were just in the prime of life, enjoying their retirement together, and planning for the future, which was cut short on July 5th, 2022. Their Family and Friends are truly devastated at the loss. I have no words to describe how I feel, I loved Jean with all my heart. Goodbye Sis. you taught me much. Michaels Aunt, Summers Great-Aunt, and Ezra’s Great-Great Aunt we love you and miss you lots.
I didn’t expect to say these words about you Sis. I miss you and Kelly so much already, I just can’t imagine a life without you two in it. I had such a wonderful time visiting you and Kelly, in B.C. and making plans to return with Brenda next summer. Your grieving brother Shon and Sister-in-Love Brenda Nephew Patrick (Mel) and great nephew Phoenix, and great nephew, Declan Jay Martyn due Nov.
There is a live stream at 4:00 sharp Ontario time at 816 Centennial Drive, Salvation Army Citadel, Kingston, Ontario. Where family and friends can come together to watch the Celebration of Life for Kelly and Jean(Wilma Smith) Menssa.

My heart goes out to the family during this difficult time. Jean and Kelly were 2 of the kindest people I ever met. Our family adored them and will forever remember them.
