February 20, 1924 – November 26, 2023
at the age of 99 years:
Anita Edna Murray (McCelvey) aka “Nits” was born in Penticton, B.C., 1924 and passed away peacefully at home in Salmon Arm, B.C. on Sunday, November 26, 2023, just short of 100 years.
She is predeceased by her husband Bill and her daughter Dianne. She is lovingly survived by four children Elaine, Heather, Bill (Betty) Ellen, her son-in-laws John and Harald, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Anita grew up in Kelowna, B.C. where she met and married Bill Murray. There they raised their five children before moving to Salmon Arm in 1965 to buy a farm in Deep Creek.
Anita was a good friend to many and will be remembered by family and friends for her strong work ethic working in the restaurant industry. She mentored many young women in their first time jobs waitressing. She carried many fond memories from those years of her life. She also spent time volunteering in her community (Gospel Mission in Kelowna)
When Anita was not working you could find her digging in the dirt in her beautiful garden, out fishing with family, exploring with her metal detector, knitting many a sweater or slipper, playing solitaire or crib, or yelling BINGO!! She loved to dance and was an avid reader.
Anita lived a long and remarkable life. We were all so fortunate to have her in our lives and are so grateful to have so many wonderful memories. She will be loved forever in our hearts and will be deeply missed but we smile knowing she will be doing a little jig now with those who went before her.
Heather and Elaine,
I am so sorry to hear about your Mothers passing.
She was a wonderful lady.
My sincere condolences to you and all the family.
Diane Henderson (Unser)
My condolences to all of Anita’s family. Not many of us get to have a parent reach the age of 99. I am sure you all know how very blessed you were. She was a lovely lady and I got to hear her yell Bingo!
