August 22, 1936 – November 1, 2023
at the age of 87 years:
An open house will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at Fischer’s Funeral Services, 4060 1st Ave. SW, Salmon Arm
“Bobbie” was born on the family farm in Snowden, Saskatchewan on August 22, 1936, to Holger and Ina Olson and passed away in Salmon Arm on November 1, 2023 at the age of 87. He is survived by his older brother Erik (Anne) Olson. Reportedly, as a toddler learning to speak, he repeatedly said “bob-bob-bob-bob” and the nickname stuck for a lifetime.
Bob married Betty Bjornson on November 10, 1962. They had 4 children together, Kelly Olson (Janeen), Jodi Huard (Elton), Chris Olson, and Stephanie Fletcher (Lindsay). Bob also has eleven grandchildren.
Bob was a skilled heavy equipment operator, truck driver, and handyman. He instilled a strong work ethic in all his children, often taking them along for the day and letting them “drive” the equipment.
Bob was married a second time, to Agustina (Tina) Alvarado on June 9, 1996. Tina currently lives in Los Algodones, Mexico.
Bob will be remembered for his stories, escapades, smile, and mischievous “twinkle” in his eye. Whether just meeting him, or knowing him for years, most would describe Bob as an unforgettable “character”.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the Cottage 5 staff at Hillside Village who cared for dad in his final years.
Chris, Kelly and Jodi. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad.
Many good times we had as kids. Bob always had a great sense of humor and was always ready to party. I grew up on our homestead which was separated from the Olson farm only by the crossroads of old highway 55 and the road to Snowden. Or as we used to say ‘kitty corner.’ The Olson family were great neighbors. Sad to hear another of our now ‘old timers’ has passed away.
So very sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. He was such a character and I look forward to share fun memories when next we meet.
Love to all the family.
