at the age of 92 years

Sophie Oshanek (nee Blahut) passed away peacefully September 5, 2021, in Vernon, BC.

Sophie was predeceased by her parents, Peter, Pelagia, and stepmother Nettie, her sister Kay (Bill), brothers Nick (Pearl), Bill (Doris), Peter (Anne), Fred (Jean), Alex (Marge), Harry (Kay), Ed (Gladys), Frank (Jean) and her granddaughter Betty-Lou.

She is survived by her children: David, Dennis (companion Kim), Sandra (Harry), Cheryl, Daryl (Clemence), Margo (Harvey), her sister Evelyn, 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

Sophie married Walter in 1950 in Yorkton, SK and together raised their children in Yorkton, St. Joseph’s Colony and Balgonie, SK before retiring to Sicamous, BC.  Sophie always had her door open to friends and family, enjoyed her garden, and playing cards with friends. 

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the very caring staff at the Heron Grove Care Centre where she spent her last years. 

The family will hold a quiet vigil for her at a later date.  Donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Society on her behalf.
