at the age of 90 years:
Celebration of Life to be held at Our Lady of the Lake (Blind Bay) at 2 pm on October 8, 2024.
Robert Joseph Paillé was born in Melville, Saskatchewan on October 30, 1933 to Dr. George Paillé and Yvonne (née Gelley). Bob is predeceased by his parents; siblings, George, Lucille (Buddy), David, Marguerite (Gigs), Roger, and his daughter, Catherine. Bob graduated from the University of Manitoba and UBC with degrees in English, Latin, and a Teaching Certificate.
He began teaching in Mission, BC, becoming a school counselor. While marking provincial English exams, he bonded over Dr. Seuss’s new book with a cute, university student helping the committee. A year later, in 1961, Bob married Margaret MacLoud in Victoria. In 1962, they moved to Enderby with their new baby for Bob to become the Vice Principal of A.L. Fortune K-12. Bob was promoted to Principal, the family grew, and in 1968, Bob moved to Kamloops to accept the position of Principal at the newly built Brocklehurst Junior Secondary.
Bob left administration after a few more years and became the teacher librarian at Valleyview, where he remained until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed field-trialling with his beloved Labs. Everywhere he went, Bob loved to curl. He was incredibly proud that, at 90, he was able to curl for free for the rest of his life. Bob and Margaret also were very active members of Sacred Heart Parish, leading Marriage Encounters, serving as lay ministers, RCIA leaders, and Parish Council. Bob was actively involved in jail ministry, creating and serving local Food Banks, and lived the gospel teaching that “where the least of my brothers are, there also, am I.” Bob’s life was a testimony to active, loving service to family, faith and community.
Bob leaves his wife, Margaret, his children Cecile (Mark) McVittie, Tom (Lori), Bernie (Alex), Christine (Matt) Koivisto; grandchildren Antonia Fantillo, Trevor, Quinten, Robbie, Catie, Olivea, Maycee, Escher, and great granddaughters Apollonia and Lucia. Bob also leaves behind godsons, Matt, Doug, and Jonathan, and dear daughter-like friend, Julie Redgun, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
