Michael (Mike) Wade Petkau of Silver Creek BC, dedicated son, father, grandfather, and friend, passed suddenly, at the age of 63, while at the family farm late in the afternoon of June 21, 2024.
Born May 24,1961 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to loving parents Glenn Petkau and Elaine Johnson (Knowlton). In his youth, he moved to settle in Silver Creek where he would grow, raise his family and spend the remainder of his life. Keeping true to his Saskatchewan roots, he loved the Saskatchewan Roughriders, fishing, gardening, poker, NASCAR and most of all the company of his large family. Throughout his life, Mike loved his work as a logging truck driver with his longest tenure at DR Moore Trucking, where the team was treated like family. Often described as setting the pace for all the drivers, Mike demonstrated a strong work ethic and dedication to his children and those close to him. Evenings were filled with caring for his expansive garden, playing with the dogs, and cooking a steak much past its doneness.
Everyone who knew Mike knew how deeply he loved, cared, and doted on his family, those he loved, and most of all the grandchildren! His home was the central gathering place for the large family for many years, with the garden providing an abundance of food for all. These dinners typically included well over 20 members, and everyone could be found enjoying the deck, puttering around the farm, racing around on dirt bikes and quads in the summer, and sledding down the hill in the winter.
Mike leaves behind a loving family and large group of friends, including his mother Elaine (Jim); sons Matthew and Marcus (Kyla); daughter Melanie (Adam); five grandchildren: Jayda, Alexis, Danika, Adena and Tristan; his partner of many years Bev; and brother Derek (Candice). He was predeceased by his father Glenn and wife Wendy.
Mike will forever be in all our hearts and missed dearly every day.
