Ruppel, Edward “Ed” Marshall

December 21, 1947 – July 21, 2023
at the age of 75 years:

It is with great sorrow, we announce the passing of Edward M. Ruppel, of Salmon Arm, BC, on July 21, 2023.  Ed was born December 21, 1947 in Nelson, BC to David and Marjorie Ruppel.

After finishing high school, Claremont Sr. Sec. in Victoria, Ed went to Dawson Creek Cooking School and worked in various camps and restaurants throughout BC and Alberta. From September 1971 to October 1976, he served with the CAF, as radio operator. In March of 1977, he started working for Edmonton Transit as a bus driver and later became motorman driving the LRT until  September of 2005.

Ed was always upgrading himself and taking day and night courses, in whatever he could, landscaping, welding, interior design, and cooking.  He enjoyed working with concrete, home renovations and always trying to think how to do things the smart way. Ed also took courses in order for him to be able to mentor Chimo kids when he lived in Edmonton, treating them with kindness, patience and understanding, to help them get them on the straight road and the right track in life.

He had a quiet, quirky sense of humor,  which made him unique to everyone who got to know him.  After retiring from ETS in 2005, Ed and his wife Sonya moved to Salmon Arm, where they had always passed through and visited during summer vacations.

He was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth and his parents.  Edward leaves behind his loving wife Sonya, stepdaughter Irene (Andrew), stepson Lawrence (Brodie), and granddaughters Ani, Kinsley, Londyn and Oaklyn.

A memorial for Ed, to follow at a later date.

In memory of Ed, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
