Selfe, Richard James

January 12, 1941 – September 15, 2018
at the age of 77 years

Jim passed away quietly at home with his family at his side.  He battled many health problems.  Born in Comox, BC, he grew up in Rosedale, BC.  In his late teens he grew to love tug boats when he went to work as a deck hand for Riv Tow out of Agassiz and Mission.  He worked for Riv Tow out of Hope,
BC as “Skipper” on the tugs.  In 1969 he moved his family to Hudsons Hope, BC, where he worked for BC Hydro running tugs for debris control at the dam in Mica Creek and Revelstoke.  He later went on to own his own tug boat for 10 years.  Before Jim had a stroke in 2002, he drove a Terex rock truck for K&S.  Jim loved camping with family and friends.  In 2017 Jim won the first ever scooter race at the Sicamous Stomp.  With saddened hearts, Jim is sadly missed by his loving wife Sharon; son Wayne (Malerie) Langworth, grandchildren Corbin & Gina; daughter Rhonda (Peter) Jensen, grandchildren Trent & Jorri; sister Corinne Simmons of Nanaimo; nieces, nephews and Samme (the fur baby).  He was predeceased by his parents and sister Lorraine.  Jim’s wishes were to have no service.  We will all celebrate Jim’s life in our own way.  Thank you to Dr. Bonthuys, Sicamous Paramedics, Sicamous RCMP and Fischer’s Funeral Services.  Memorial donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Shuswap SPCA, 5850 Auto Road SE, Salmon Arm, BC, V1E 2X2 or a society of your choice.
