Sparling, Sharon Ivy

February 8, 1940 – June 27, 2023
at the age of 83 years:

It is with continued sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sharon Sparling at the age of 83.

Sharon leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Frederick; three children Donald, Traci, and Barbara; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and numerous family members and friends who all loved her dearly.

Sharon was born in Vancouver.  After completing high school, and while she was employed at Workman’s Compensation, Sharon married her sweetheart Fred.  When their children were young, they moved to Salt Spring Island, where they raised their kids while Fred worked for the BC Ferries.

While raising their children, Sharon owned a small home-based bakery called Fantasy Cakes, she also made numerous crafts which were sold at various craft fairs and worked for a period of time at the local cable office.  She was a true role model with her community involvement which included volunteering as well as being a Brown Owl leader for the Brownies group for many years.

When she wasn’t busy with her family, work, and volunteering, Sharon would be throwing herself into the numerous creative projects she was passionate about. These included knitting, crocheting, cooking, gardening, and creating stunning quilts.

After their kids were grown, Sharon and Fred moved to Salmon Arm where they have lived for over 20 years.  Sharon was actively involved with the local quilt guild as their secretary, general volunteer, and avid quilter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sharon Sparling’s name to the charity of one’s choice.

The family wishes to send a very special and heartfelt thank you for the wonderful care and compassion of the staff at Bastion Place long term care facility in Salmon Arm.  Sharon had resided happily there for almost two years.
