October 30, 1933 – January 17, 2026
at the age of 92 years:
Adrianna “Jenny” Veldhoen (Vestering) and her surviving husband Joe started an amazing clan 70 years ago with 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
From the Netherlands with an adventurous spirit, Jenny immigrated to Canada in 1952 on the Southern Cross and then a long train ride to Calgary. She did domestic service in Rockyford, AB learning english with the children’s help. Mom moved to the York Hotel in Calgary as a maid, window washer and repair seamstress for all their linens.
Joe and Jenny married in Calgary and lived in a barn before building two houses and having Trudy, Bill, John, Janet and Rick raising them in Calgary.
Joe and Jenny moved to BC in 1981 including the whole family in building the farm. They later helped their daughter Janet raise two amazing grandsons, Joseph and Jessie who continue to be amazing to this day. Jenny loved lots of company and her friends in the Salmon Arm Lions and the Shuswap Spinners and Weavers Guild.
Jenny’s generous spirit was hidden by dementia and she passed away Saturday January 17th, 2026 at Mount Ida Mews with Janet, Trudy and husband Joe at her bedside. Thank you to the staff who cared for her so kindly before she passed. She was predeceased by her parents, her son John, grandson Eric, daughter in law Sheila, two brothers, John and Hank and two sisters, Afra and Willy.
Memorial to follow in the spring.

To Janet & Family
My condolences.
Jenny was a good friend for 40 years. We had the best time having tea and cookies in her kitchen. Our love for weaving brought us many happy hours spending time together.
I’ll be thinking and missing you my friend!
Dear Trudy and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve the loss of your mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
May the memories you have and share with one another at this time be a source of strength and comfort.
A Mass will be offered for her and for all of you.
May she Rest in Peace.
Trudy and family, our sincere condolences on the passing of your mom, Nana, and great Nana. May she rest in peace. Hugs to you all.
I am so sorry to hear of Jenny’s passing. I always enjoyed seeing her at the office I used to worked at. Joe would come in to visit with the boss and Jenny and I would have some great chats in the meantime. She was a real gem and had such a sense of humor. Sending my condolences to Joe and all of Jenny’s family. She worked hard her whole life and now she can rest.
Safe journey home Jenny. Your friendship and kindness all those years ago will never be forgotten.
Sending extra love to you Janet and family.
A wonderful woman with a heart of gold, who gave everything she could for her family. Deeply loved and respected by all.
A most outstanding Mother, Nana and Great Nana.
Miss you, and love ❤️ you.
