Verburg, Nicolaas Jacobus “Nick”

August 25, 1934 – December 23, 2018
at the age of 84 years

It is with great sadness that the family of {Nick} Nicolaas Jacobus Verburg announces his passing on Dec 23, 2018 at the age of 84 at Shuswap Lake General Hospital. Nick passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
He was born August 25, 1934 in Stolwyk, Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1953. 
He was predeceased by his parents Jacobus and Suzanna Verburg as well as his first wife Edna in 2002 and second wife EiIleen in 2012 and step sons Frank and Wally Babakaiff.  
He is survived by his sons Jack (Chris) and Dan (Joyce)  as well as his grandchildren Sara, Jacob, Shannon, Ryan, Ashley, Sergie and Virgil, Taryn and Haley, many great grandchildren as well as two sisters in Holland and Australia. 
Nick was a carpenter and built many houses in the Sicamous, Salmon Arm and Revelstoke areas than went on to work in heavy construction, working on such projects as the Revelstoke Dam until he retired at about age 60.
After retiring he would travel to Arizona for the winters with his fifth wheel travel trailer. During the rest of the year he enjoyed working in his wood shop, riding his bicycle, visiting with his many friends and writing letters to the editor of Eagle Valley News.
Nick always had a boat and enjoyed Sundays on Shuswap Lake as well as riding motorcycles, owning several over the years.
Nick wished to have a celebration of life which will be announced and held in spring.
Nick wanted to be cremated and wished any memorial donations to be made to the Salvation Army.
