Vike, Doris “Irene”

November 23, 1929 – December 11, 2023
at the age of 94 years:     

        A Celebration of Life for Irene will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, 1pm at the Five Corners Pentecostal Church, 3160 10th Ave. SE, Salmon Arm, BC.

 

             With deep sorrow and broken hearts, the family of Doris “Irene” Vike announce her passing on December 11, 2023, in Salmon Arm, BC surrounded by her loving family.  Irene was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 23, 1929.

Irene was predeceased by her husband Norman and son Bill. She is survived by her adoring children, David, Norene, Doris, Mark, Dan, Jim, Norm, Julie, Paul, Pauline, 30 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.

She was an accomplished vocalist, singing in churches and choirs. Along with being an amazing mother to 11 children, her working career included being a secretary, postal worker, and working at Skimikin Tree Nursery for 17 years. Both Mom and Dad spent time in Japan serving the Lord as missionaries in the 1950s.

One of her main hobbies included the love of knitting Afghan blankets for all her children, grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Also, Irene was known for baking delicious loaves of bread and buns.

She was outgoing and loved people wherever she went making many friends. Irene and Norman’s home was an open door to friends and strangers alike. Irene modelled a life of gracious service to others demonstrating her gift of hospitality.

Irene often voiced her grateful appreciation for all the love shown by home support and medical staff. The family extends a sincere heartfelt thankyou to the caring staff at Andover Terrace and Shuswap Lake General Hospital.

Celebration of life for Irene will be announced in the spring of 2024.

  3. I’ve never forgotten Irene from the years we worked together at Skimikin Nursery. She was always so kind and caring and left a lasting impression on me. Thank you Irene for your love and kindness.

  4. I loved her so much and looking after her in Andover. Never have i seen such a loving large family as close knit as hers. There was nothing you couldn’t love about Irene. I will miss her very much and her loving smile and stories of her family.
