April 26, 1959 – July 20, 2025
at the age of 66 years:
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marvin Hector Bourgeau, age 66. He passed away on Sunday night, July 20, 2025 surrounded by loving family.
Marvin was born on April 26, 1959 in New Westminster, B.C., to Kenneth and Evelyn Bourgeau. He is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl, their two daughters Alyss and Katie, his sister Gail, his twin brother Mark, and his two treasured grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his sons-in-law, Ben and Simon, as well as his sisters-in-law, Val, Brad, Debbie, Diana, Greg, Lewis and Leslie.
Marvin was a hardworking and dedicated man; he graduated from Centennial Secondary School in 1977 and from there he went on to become an exceptional machinist for Brunette’s Machinery Inc. He was noted for his extraordinary abilities to solve mechanical problems, and in later years, as the shop foreman and he was able to machine, fix, or repair all types of heavy equipment.
In the last years of his career, he worked as a Technical Sales Representative for Murray Latta Progressive Machine Inc.
His true passion and joy however was the collection and restoration of antique farm equipment. He developed lifelong friendships and received great pleasure in seeing old antique motors restored and come back to working condition once again.
Marvin touched the lives of many people. He was a devoted brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was strong-willed at times but he had a big heart and an enormous soft spot for his family.
He was known for making the best macaroni salad, for keeping toffee at work in his desk for staff, and for always bringing jujubes to family B.B.Q.’s. He loved to whistle, and do vocal impressions. Marvin had a wonderful sense of humour, a great laugh and he enjoyed teasing others.
Marvin was a fighter as he lived with Parkinson’s and a myriad of complex medical issues for many years. He never felt sorry himself and he lived his life with courage and strength.
While our hearts greatly mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace.
The family thanks the doctors and medical staff at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster and the doctors and medical staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital for their time, kindness, compassion and expertise while caring for Marvin.
A Celebration of Life will take place in the Fall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Parkinson’s Society of B.C.
Cheryl, So sorry to hear about Marvin’s passing. Wishing you and your family strength and comfort during this difficult time
What a beautiful tribute, so many treasured memories for you and the family. All the best as you navigate these next steps. Bev Colvin.
Dear Cheryl,
We are friends of your sister Deb and we just met you at a Beer & Burger night, that you attended after spending all day at the hospital.
We had not met Marvin and this message is for you. I have to say that we were impressed by your devotion to your husband and that you managed to be good company at our table that night, even though you must have been tired and worried.
May you find peace in the memories that you shared with Marvin.
Our deepest condolences to you and your family.
I was privileged to know Marvin as my brother-in-law. Over the years, I came to deeply appreciate his kind heart and his quiet generosity.
Marvin had a special place in his heart for my daughter Bridget, who lives with a disability. His warmth and gentle teasing always made her feel comfortable and seen. Bridget absolutely adored him. It meant the world to me to witness that connection between them.
Losing Marvin so soon after the passing of my own husband Paul, just over four months ago, has been especially hard. But in the midst of grief, I find comfort in remembering Marvin’s sense of humor and the deep love he had for his family. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
Cheryl and family,
We were heartbroken to hear of your loss. Please accept our deepest condolences during this difficult time. Our hearts go out to you, and we’re keeping you in our thoughts.
With sympathy and care,
Mike and Lori Breckon
