Gary Lewis Goodridge passed away peacefully at Bastion Place in Salmon Arm, BC, on December 15, 2024. This kind, loving, intelligent man lost his courageous one-year battle to cancer with his wife Linda, his Jack Russell Terrier, Peekay, and four close friends by his side.
Gary was born in Eriksdale, MB, on November 3, 1945. His family lived in Moosehorn, MB, where he grew up and went to school. He joined the RCMP soon out of high school. His first posting was Tisdale, SK, where he met Linda Jones, who was finishing high school. They married in 1968.
Most of Gary’s service in the RCMP was in Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. He was known as an honourable, fair and devoted policeman with a strong work ethic. Gary was promoted through the ranks, finishing as S/Sgt in charge of Dawson Creek, BC. He and Linda retired to the Salmon Arm area (Sunnybrae) in 1996. In retirement, he worked for several years in the boat business, enjoying and helping others enjoy the beautiful Shuswap Lakes.
Throughout his life Gary dearly loved his family, animals, nature, helping others, travel, cars and sports. He played hockey himself and was a fan of the Canucks, Oilers and Flames. Fifteen years in the Northwest Territories were packed with adventures for Gary and Linda, exciting and numerous enough to fill a book.
Lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Linda; his daughter Tanis Sumners and three grandchildren, Traiden (Brianna), Whrett, and Alyas, all of Edmonton, AB; his brother Randy Goodridge (Bev), nephew Damien (Blaine) of Moosehorn, MB; and nephew Chas of Winnipeg, MB; his sister-in-law Shirley Kotrla (Norbert) of Ft. Qu’Appelle, SK; his nephew Ben Kotrla (Roxanne) of Winnipeg, MB and niece Mandi (Blazej) Taras, missionaries in Macedonia.
Gary was predeceased by his son-in-law Rodney Sumners, his parents and in-laws, and extended family members.
Gary holds a special place in the hearts of family and friends far and wide. He believed in God’s promise of a resurrection to everlasting life on a perfected paradise earth. His last soft words to Linda on December 15 were “I’ll see you there.” Until then, he rests peacefully in God’s memory.
“Gone from our sight, but never our memories –
gone from our touch, but never our hearts.”

at the age of 38 years:
It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden and tragic passing of Wesley, who left us far too soon — on December 10th in a canoeing accident in Enderby, British Columbia. At just 38 years old, Wes lived a vibrant and unforgettable life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughs, creativity, and adventure.
Wes was a true original. He poured his heart into everything he did. He was an artist in every sense of the word. He painted and drew the way some people breathe—effortlessly, beautifully. He loved music, nature, and living life on the edge, whether it was through extreme sports or just the everyday mischief that seemed to follow him around like a shadow. He lived life boldly and fully, finding beauty in the world around him and humor in every corner.
Above all, he was a loving father. Nothing brought him greater happiness than the time he spent with his two children, Jade (12) and Faryn (10). They were his greatest joy and he felt like the luckiest man on earth when he was with them. His love for them was limitless.
Wes was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him. His boldness, humor, and immense heart left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to call him a friend, a son, a brother, or a dad. His absence will leave an irreplaceable void, but the memories he gave us will remain forever. He was the kind of person who could drive you crazy one second and have you laughing until your drink came out your nose the next. He loved his family, his friends, his dogs, and pretty much anyone who crossed his path. He had a knack for making people feel seen, even in their messiest, most broken moments, because he knew what it felt like to live with a big messy heart.
He lives on through his children, Jade and Faryn; his parents, Albert and Alice; his sister, Teri; and a large circle of friends and extended family who loved him deeply and unconditionally.
In honor of Wesley and his love for his children, and in lieu of flowers, a trust is being established by their grandparents for their future. For those who wish to contribute, donations can be made via e-transfer to amillis@interbaun.com, or by reaching out to Wesley’s parents directly.
A small ceremony to honour Wesley will be held with immediate family and a few lifelong friends in the coming weeks. A larger celebration of life will be held in the spring/summer of 2025 in Whitehorse, with details to come.
