May 20, 1924 – July 21, 2023
at the age of 99 years:
In loving memory of Margit Cummings, our mother, grandmother and great grandma, who at the age of 99, passed away peacefully at the North Okanagan Hospice in Vernon, BC.
Margit came to Canada from Minnesota, USA in 1927 with her Swedish parents, Sigurd and Hildur Johnson. They settled in Canoe, BC. She had 6 siblings, all who have predeceased her except for her twin sister Birgit MacPherson who resides in Nelson, BC.
It was in Canoe that she met and married our beloved father “Charlie.” After marriage and many job-related moves, they settled in Sicamous in 1967 and spent the last years of their lives there. Dad predeceased her in 2011 and Mom, independent as she was, continued to live on her own in their home until she was 98.
In remembering Mom, she was a strong-willed woman who did things on her own terms, yet had a soft touch for a stray animal or a wounded bird. She loved to putter in her garden and to spend time with family and friends. She always ended her visits with “Oh, do you have to leave so soon!” A spontaneous drive with Dad anytime, anywhere, any weather topped the cake. Always hair in place, nails painted and a sparkly necklace until the end – that was our Margit.
Margit is survived by her 5 children: Judy Evans, Sylvia (Ken), Ed (Sue), Lee (Cathy) and Curtis (Sheila), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Cheers to Margit!
