September 7, 1931 – November 13, 2025
at the age of 94 years:
With sad hearts, we announce the passing of Roy Bert Dow, who returned to his Heavenly Father on November 13, 2025, at the age of 94.
Roy leaves behind his loving wife of 73 years, Florence, with whom he shared a lifetime of devotion, partnership, and faith. Together they raised six children—Brian, Larry, Karen, Cam, Scott, and Mikl—and built a legacy that continues through 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Family was Roy’s greatest joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Roy dedicated his working years to the Calgary Board of Education, where he influenced countless students through his passion for learning and music. He served as the Music Man at Viscount Bennett High School for 22 years—a place he dearly loved. His talents extended beyond music; he also taught mathematics, worked in administration, and was known for the care and encouragement he offered to both students, parents, and colleagues.
A lifelong and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Roy served faithfully in many callings, including a mission with his beloved Florence. Later, during his years in Salmon Arm, BC he cherished his service as Bishop of the Salmon Arm Ward for five years. He loved the members deeply and valued the friendships and spiritual experiences.
In retirement, Roy embraced everything he loved: golfing, building, fishing, traveling, and most of all, time spent at the family cabin on Shuswap Lake. Among his grandchildren, he was affectionately known as “Fishin Grandpa.” He blessed his family with a sharp mind and an even sharper sense of humor.
Rest in Peace, Roy. Your legacy of faith, family, learning, and love will continue for generations.
A memorial service will be held on Zoom in January 2026. Details will be shared with family and friends.

I wasn’t aware that he had passed on. I apologize for my late response. I very much enjoyed his company, his sense of humour and mostly his kindness. As a member of the LDS Church he was great example to the rest of us. I am deeply sorry and send my condolences to his wife Flow and families.
To Roy’s Family,
I was deeply saddened to read in The Calgary Herald of Roy’s recent passing. I was the English Department Head at Viscount Bennett High School for a number of years where Roy was an excellent teacher and Administrator.
He cared about students, was helpful to teachers, and I always enjoyed working with him.
Roy was an all around fine person and I know that he will be greatly missed by many.
Most sincerely,
Enid Holtby

Flo and families, sorry for the loss of your loved one. I have many fond memories of my association in past years with the Dow families. He will surely be missed.
Hello Aunt Flo and all, I am sad to hear the news of Uncle Roy’s passing. I heard from Barbara and tried a number I had. So many wonderful memories of Uncle Roy and you all. I was reminded the other day of the great feasts we all had at Christmas. Our thoughts and hugs. The last of the Dow Rhythmers . I am sure that has been mentioned. Love Deborah.
