at the age of 98 years:

Verna Dorothy Langevin, long time resident of Sorrento, BC passed peacefully from this life in to the presence of her Lord and Savior on January 4, 2026.

Verna was born October 9, 1927 in the little town of Sulphide, ON, the fifth child of Philip and Johana.  A brother was to follow a year later and together they attended the little country school directly across the road from their family home.

Upon graduating from high school and impressed by the teaching Order of the Congregation of Notre Dame, Verna entered the Order as Novitiate in 1951 and served the community and Roman Catholic Church for the next 30 years, teaching in various schools in Ontario and Calgary.  During summer school, Verna also disciplined herself, eventually obtaining a Master’s Degree in Quantum Mathematics.

Verna experienced the Catholic Charismatic Renewal early in 1967 and this opened new possibilities of service for her.  With 3 other CND Sisters, she moved west to open a Mission House in Kamloops (1976) where she became the Leader of the newly formed Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group and counselled in the Pro Life movement.

Back to the concrete jungle of Toronto for the following two years in 1978 to study counselling psychology, Verna felt the call to the West.  In 1980 she asked permission to take a year Sabbatical and returned to teaching Calgary, AB.  Verna was released from her vows as a CND in September 1981 and entered service as a lay person for the remainder of her life.

In 1985, Verna because co-owner and co-managed the Evergreens Bed and Breakfast with her best friend in Sorrento, BC where she lived until the Lord took her “Home.”

Verna loved the simple things in life, nature, gardening, travel and loved people.  Her gentle approach to life was refreshing to all who came into contact with her.

Verna is predeceased by her parents and all her siblings but leaves numerous nieces and nephews to mourn her passing, as well as her best friend.

Internment at Hillside Cemetery, Kamloops, April 9, 2026, 1:30pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pro Life Movement at OLPH Catholic Church, Kamloops, BC.

Isaiah 55:11-12  “So shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return unto Me void, but shall do MY Will, achieving the end for which I sent it.  Yes, in joy you shall depart, in peace you shall be brought back; mountains and hills shall break out in song before you, and all the trees shall clap their hands.”

Thank you for the wonderful memories, Aunt Verna.

  2. My deepest condolences to Linda and to Vern’s friends. Although I only have childhood memories of my aunt, Verna, they are very special ones. It was aunt Verna who took me to my first movie in a theatre, in Montreal. I was around 9 at the time. Coming from a family of six children, money wasn’t spent on such things. So, that was such a wonderful treat. I will always remember Verna as a very kind, gentle and loving person. I only wish I had known her better.

  4. I had the privilege of living underneath Verna, on the main level of the home, for almost two years. She had an angelic presence – savoring song, people, and conversations until the end. I greatly respect her courage in starting again in life, her intellect in obtaining advanced education, and her profound, spiritual friendship with Linda. My warm condolences to Linda and to her family. In gratitude for the immense blessings of your presence, Verna. Rest in Peace.

  5. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Verna. We shared the same name, and I had the privilege of assisting her when I was working as a caregiver. We shared some nice times together. She will be missed by many.
