Edwin Denis McRae of Chase, BC, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2023. Ed was born in Loon Lake, Saskatchewan on September 4, 1938. He is predeceased by his parents John and Annie McRae, sister Shirley Driedger and nephews Darryl and Kenny. He is survived by his wife Pauline, brothers Cecil and Wesley, daughters Holly (Phil) Jones, Kelly (Gerry) Rundel, Carol (Brad) Osaduik and Deana McRae, grandchildren Dalton, Conlan, Morgan, Alden, Randi, Brodie, Steven, Stefani, Sheldon and Laura, and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ed was raised on a farm in northern Saskatchewan. Never one to stay put for too long and with family in tow, Ed went to teacher’s college and taught school in Saskatchewan, Alberta and at the Adam’s Lake Band School in Chase, BC. He worked for the federal government in Kamloops and Canada Manpower in Port Alberni. Eventually he started a furnace cleaning business and later a pest extermination business. Finally, he settled back in Chase with Pauline.

Ed always maintained his love of the family ranch in Saskatchewan, hunting (legal and questionable), spotting wildlife, taking long drives on the back roads, travelling locally and overseas, helping others, and spending time with family, friends and pets. He had a great sense of humour and especially enjoyed sharing his past stories, most of which had a significant element of mischief. For this he will be remembered and greatly missed.

Thank you to all the Chase Medical Clinic staff and Royal Inland Hospital staff and physicians who provided attentive and timely care to Ed in recent years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chase Health Foundation to support local wellness initiatives within the community at Box 1099 Chase, BC   VOE 1MO.

at the age of 74 years:

*A Celebration of Life for family and close friends will be held later in the Spring.

It is with profound sadness that the family of Karin Louise Janzen announces her sudden passing on March 16th, 2023, at the age of 74 years old in Salmon Arm, B.C.

Karin is survived by her son Spencer (Janet), daughter Gillian (Gerry) and her grandkids that she cherished more then anything – Nicola, Morgan, Owen, Logan, Anika, Brookelyn and Austin. Also, by her special puppy, Tessa, who has made these last few years so much more enjoyable for her. She was predeceased by her forever love, Helmut in March of 2022.

Karin is fondly remembered as a loving mother and Oma who was devoted to her family. A gentle soul, Karin possessed a quiet strength, a positive outlook and was always friendly and would greet everyone with a smile. She was a kind, caring, generous woman who never hesitated to volunteer if needed. She was the most beautiful, meticulous seamstress and had a passion for sewing, quilting and crafting.

We would like to thank the wonderful paramedics and the Emergency staff at Shuswap Lake General Hospital for your care and support of our dear Mom.

We love you and miss you. Till we meet again.
Peaceful be your rest, dear Mother
‘tis sweet to breathe your name –
As in life we loved you dearly
And in death we do the same.

McDonald, Edward “Ed” Myles

McDonald, Edward “Ed” Myles

January 17, 1942 – March 12, 2023
at the age of 81 years:

There will be an informal celebration of life starting at 2:30pm on Friday, March 31st at the Sunnybrae Community Hall.

This world was blessed to have had Edward Myles McDonald for 81 years.

Born to Myles and Margaret McDonald on a farm in Matsqui BC, he was raised in Vancouver where he went to school and earned a reputation for being an elite athlete. He attended UBC where he studied Latin and played varsity football before earning his degree and becoming a high school teacher. Along the way, Ed played professional lacrosse for the Nanaimo Timbermen and then the New Westminster Salmonbellies, with whom he won a Mann Cup as a member of the 1965 Canadian Championship team.

Ed met his perfect partner, Marlene, in 1966 while teaching in Chilliwack and they married in 1967 before moving with their two sons from Yarrow to Salmon Arm in 1975 where they found an amazing home and community.  Here, Ed was a respected and nurturing teacher, and was an institution at Jackson Jr. High before retiring from teaching and opening up a science and nature store.

Ed had a deep respect for nature, which led him to join the Shuswap Naturalists Club where he served as president for two decades.  He found much joy working with this group and his passion for helping others discover the beauty in everything from mosquitos to milkweed made everyone he interacted with better appreciate nature.

Ed had a gentle demeanour and warm humour that made him a cherished son, brother, husband, and father; “Grampa Blue Eyes/Grampa Boom Boom/Wobble Head” was also a perfect grandfather to his beloved Abby and Jake.

He is survived by his wife Marlene, his children Grant, Deb, Chris, and Sarah, his grandchildren Abby and Jake, and his siblings Archie, Joy, and Cathy.

There will be an informal celebration of life starting at 2:30pm on Friday, March 31st at the Sunnybrae Community Hall.  In lieu of flowers or gifts, a donation can be made to the “Shuswap Naturalists Bursary Fund” through the Shuswap Community Foundation.
