Born in Stettler, AB and raised in Big Valley, AB amongst many Burnstad’s, she was destined to be a farm girl, until she met Larry in Calgary – the love of her life.  They moved from Calgary to Vancouver and eventually ended up in Victoria where Larry passed away in 2002. Darleen then moved to Salmon Arm where she lived with her cousin Gary for 20+ years. Darleen discovered reading and travelling later in life and took to both activities. She travelled to Australia, Iceland, Ireland and many trips closer to home. She was an avid reader right to the end. She also enjoyed watching her Blue Jays, curling and other sporting events.

Darleen, a beloved sister, aunt and cousin passed away at home in Salmon Arm, BC at the age of 88. Darleen leaves behind brother Benny Burnstad, (Leonie) from PG, sister Melody Burnstad (Alan Cree) from ON, niece Lori Johnson from AB, cousins Gary Carder from Salmon Arm and Pat & Shari Burnstad from NWT and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephew. Darleen was predeceased by her parents John and Iona, brother Johnny and husband Larry.

Darleen was a compassionate, dedicated and committed individual and was there for all. She volunteered for a number of local community agencies such as foot care for seniors.  She was known to be witty, stubborn, and didn’t want anyone to fuss over her.  She left on her own terms.

Family and close friends had a small private service in Salmon Arm. Darleen was very loved and will be greatly missed.
