Stripling, Harry Otto

Stripling, Harry Otto

June 6, 1929 – August 11, 2024
at the age of 95 years:

Funeral Service will be held August 19, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Fischer’s Funeral Home

Harry Otto Stripling went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 11, 2024.  His life began in Lisky, Ukraine, youngest son to Otto & Melita Stripling the 6th day of June 1929.  He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Arnold, Walter, Rita and Ingrid.  After immigrating to Canada Harry married the love of his life Inez Eslinger in Calgary February 14, 1952.  He was 21 when he and his brother Walter came from Germany by ship.  Harry was predeceased by Inez in October of 2021 and his youngest son Donald in May 2024.

When Dad was the tender age of 6 his father was taken by the Russian Army, placed in prison and died a short time later.  His mother was left to survive on her own and support the children.  Dad’s schooling in the Ukraine ended at grade 6.  He was an amazing determined young man who spoke Ukrainian, Polish and German.  He learned English after moving to Canada, albeit most of it written phonetically.

At the age of 15 Dad apprenticed as a Baker in Germany.  He worked hard to make a living for himself and loved the outdoors. Often if he had time, he and friends would hike the mountains to ski down the next day.  Snow skiing was the sport he loved and enjoyed throughout his life.  He and Inez shared this sport with their family for many years.

Dad worked hard all his life despite setbacks and hardships he never gave up.  His leg was badly crushed in an oil rig accident which led to many surgeries.  This was the fate that brought him together with Inez when he moved to Calgary for therapy and attended Bridgeland Baptist Church.  He worked for the National Bakery.  He quickly picked up carpentry skills from his father-in-law and soon after marrying Inez they built their first home in Calgary.  Shortly after they moved to Terrace BC to look after his mother who had a major stroke.  He worked in a bakery together there with Inez’s cousin Irwin Eslinger.  Two years later they were back in Calgary. In 1959 Inez, Harry, Carol and Randolph packed up the house and made the trek across the Big Bend Highway to their new home in Salmon Arm, BC.  The Salmon Arm Bakery was located on Front Street and was a welcome business to residents selling European breads like sourdough rye and his special pumpernickel.  Business did well and Harry once again built the family a new home, a stones throw from the Salmon Arm Hospital.  As the bakery business was expanding it was time for a new building on Hudson Street with family quarters right above and painted his favorite color melon green.  Dad partnered with their special friends Paul & Marie, and together built a cabin for both families to enjoy Shuswap living.  Many water skiing, tree swinging, rook games and campfire memories were created there.

Dad exchanged his bakery apron for a hammer and ventured into building several homes in Salmon Arm.  The most memorable location ended up on the water in Canoe where he could run his old tractor and enjoy his gardening skills.  Dad loved all kinds of activities, fishing, water skiing, and his motorcycle.  His real passion was snow skiing and shushing down the slopes in his slalom style.  He discovered a love for snowbird traveling spending winters in their motor home down south with many many friends they met and made over the years.

Dad was a valued member of the Gideons for over 40 years.  He enjoyed serving in this ministry delivering Bibles to schools, hotels and motels throughout the Shuswap.

In a 2018 incident dad ended up in hospital with a broken body part.  It prompted the move from their home in Raven’s subdivision. Time to downsize to independent living at Piccadilly Terrace, across from Canadian Tire where dad became a regular in his red Shopride scooter.  A power wheelchair mishap put him back in hospital with another broken bone and this time the move was to Mount Ida Mews long term care home.  Shortly after he moved their mom joined him as her health was failing and in their true love style were able to live together again.  It was quite an adventure loading both wheelchairs in Handy Dart to do a little shopping and lunch together.  A stroke in 2020 didn’t make it as easy for Dad to get around but he never gave up hope or his desire for living life the best it could be lived.  He enjoyed weekly outings with his girls, Carol #1 and Carol #2.

At 95 years of age dad’s health quickly declined after losing his youngest son and his zest for life faltered.  When he could no longer enjoy his salsa, pickles, chips and pops the tides turned and the writing was on the wall that he was headed heaven bound soon.

We rejoice in knowing that all suffering and pain is gone, and dad is resting in the arms of his heavenly father along with all those who have gone before him.

Foster, Barry Thomas

Foster, Barry Thomas

May 3, 1953 – July 16, 2024
at the age of 71 years:

Barry’s celebration of life will take place on Saturday September 14th, at 1pm, at Harper Lake recreation site, near Chase BC.

Barry Thomas Foster was born May 3, 1953 in New Westminster, BC. He passed away unexpectedly in July 2024 in Enderby, BC.

The second eldest of four siblings, Barry grew up around Burnaby and the lower mainland. He left school in grade 11 and worked on the Westminster tug boats. In 1992, Barry moved his family to the Shuswap. Later, he lived in Chase and Enderby.

Barry loved fishing and being outdoors. He was an amazing fisherman who fished everywhere. He spent a lot of time at Harper Lake near Chase, where he was known as the first unofficial “mayor” of Harper Lake. A great storyteller who was constantly cracking jokes, Barry was a kind, generous man who would give the shirt off his back and drop everything to help a person in need. Barry never met a hitchhiker too sketchy to pick up; he would always say that he hoped someone would do the same for him if he was down on his luck. Dad was full of sage advice, such as “if you’re having a party, go around and invite your neighbours. People are way less likely to call the cops on a party they were invited to.” He loved being a dad and often said having kids was the best thing he ever did.

Barry was predeceased by his sister Cathy (1979), his father Elton (2010), brother Alan (2016), and mother Marie (2020). He is survived by his older brother Gerry (Shelia); his children Sarah (Jorin), Jesse, Sam, and his grandchildren, Jameson and Isla. He also leaves behind extended family and many friends.

We love you Dad!

Chmilar, Robert “Rob” Michael

May 15, 1954 – July 8, 2024
at the age of 70 years:

Robert Michael Chmilar (Rob) passed away after a short battle with cancer on Monday, July 8th, 2024, at Shuswap Lake General Hospital at the age of 70 years.

Rob was born in Vancouver on May 15, 1954. The family purchased the Hart Hotel in Pouce Coupe and lived there from age 10 until he was 16. The family then moved to Courtenay where he graduated from high school and continued with his post-secondary schooling in Business Administration at Malaspina College in Nanaimo. His nickname was “Wang” and he was known for the canned music he prepared for the Business Club dances. He had fond memories working the summers for the Department of Highways in Courtenay.

Rob and Peggy met and attended the same college so they could be together. They were married in the summer of 1978 in Courtenay. 4 months later, they moved to Sicamous and took ownership of Caesar’s Inn Neighbourhood Pub with Rob’s’ parents. Robs brother Richard and his wife Lorri moved to Sicamous shortly after to join the family in transitioning the business to Brothers Pub.

Rob and Peggy welcomed 4 children that kept them very busy. After 41 years in the business, they sold and entered into retirement (2 months before COVID). They spent the majority of their summers at their cabin outside of Revelstoke.

Rob enjoyed music (specifically, The Beatles and the Rolling Stones), hockey, golf, football (Chicago Bears), woodworking, spending time with his family, pranking the staff at Brothers, and eventually, doting and spoiling his granddaughter. Rob also enjoyed traveling both internationally and within North America, plus his annual trips with his fantasy football crew. You could find him with the Happy Hour Boys on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Rob loved to cause mischief and tomfoolery. His day would not be complete without a jab at his Fantasy Football Boys or razzing a certain gal in town about her “Sh*thawks”.

Rob is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 45 years, Peggy Chmilar, children, Stephen, Kelsey (Yanne), Monica and Lee, plus his adored grandchild, Sophie. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Lorri), nephews and a niece.

Rob was predeceased by his parents, Irene and Alex Chmilar.

Soar
You were not born to be ordinary.
You are so beautiful, so interesting and so wonderfully unique.
You hold dreams and ideas inside of you that no one else
has ever thought of and that the world so desperately needs.
You do not need to pretend to be anyone
other than who you really are.
You were never meant to be ordinary my handsome father.
It’s time to let your wings out so you can finally soar.

Celebration of Life
July 29, 2024, 1pm, Shuswap Community Church, 3151 6 Ave NE, Salmon Arm, BC

In Loving Memory of Abram (Abe) Zacharias

On June 3, 2024, at the age of 85, with his loving wife at his side, Abe went to his Heavenly Mansion “to meet the King of Kings and Lord of Lords” (his recent words) whom he sung about for many years.

Abe was born in Hague, Saskatchewan to William and Anna Zacharias, the middle child of 11. When still a young boy, his family moved to southern Alberta. As a teenager he gave his life to Christ and went on to attend Bible College in Alberta for 3 years. He then moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba to find a job, and soon met the love of his life, Margaret (Marg) Groening at a church youth wiener roast. After courting for a year and a half, Abe and Marg were married in November of 1962. Soon after, he enrolled in trade school where he completed his welding certification where he went onto to make welding his career for many years. A few years later, they moved to Calgary where Abe continued to work as a welder, started his own business in Ornamental Iron and worked with his welding Rig. Abe and Marg then moved their family to Golden, BC to escape the busy city life to enjoy country living. Abe continued with his welding business for many years and later worked for CP Rail as a railway track patrolman.

Abe was raised in a very musical family where he learned the gift of singing and harmonizing. His brother Bill taught him a few chords on guitar that inspired his lifelong love of music and singing. In 1992, after moving to Salmon Arm, BC, he retired from his first career as a welder and began his second career in full time music ministry. He travelled with his wife across Western Canada and parts of the United States, playing many church concerts, country gospel festivals and various other venues. He recorded many albums, mostly his own compositions and collaborated with other musicians and singers along the way. He was honoured to sing one of his own songs on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, with their band in accompaniment. Abe was nominated several times by the Country Gospel Music Association, for Song Writer of the Year, and won several awards. Then also for the Male Vocalist of the Year and won awards with the top honor of Male Vocalist for Canada & the United States in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1997. He also won Group of the Year with Kathy Froese and Lyn Sandi and enjoyed singing in the group “Sons of the Sage” with Duane Stewart and Gerry Pelland.

His hobbies were mostly his music, reading, going for walks and hiking. In is earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, however, most importantly was spending quality time with his family. His infectious smile and witty sense of humor warmed the hearts of his beloved family and friends.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Marg, of 61 years. Also, his four much loved children, Angela (Larry), Kevin, Laurel (Chris), and Trevor as well as his precious grandchildren Keith (Corrie), Collin, Alajiah (Riley), Joshua, Janayah, and his special great grandsons Liam and Dominic. His last wish was for all his family to meet him in Heaven.

He was predeceased by his parents William and Anna, his brothers Bill and Tony and his sisters Helen and Kay. He will be dearly missed by his surviving brothers John and Dave and his sisters Anne, Marie, Betty and Eve.

The family would like to extend our thanks to Dr. Dirk Breugem for his care and to the medical staff at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm for their support and care in the last few weeks of his long and difficult decline in health.

Grant, Clayton Bruce

January 18, 1942 – May 26, 2024
at the age of 82 years:

Clayton passed away peacefully at Hillside Village in Salmon Arm after battling Parkinsons disease and Lewy body Dementia.

Clayton is survived by his daughter Stacie, sons Stephen, Stuart (Rick) Stanely, stepsons, son-in-law Kam (Thirza), grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as his brothers, Wendel, Ronald (Christine), Douglas, nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Heather, his nephew Bradley, his daughter Lori, his parents Earl and Violet as well as his sisters-in-law Donna and Diana.

He is fondly remembered by his dear friend Dorothy who was a great comfort to him after his wife of 53 years, Heather passed away in 2020.

Clayton was born in Vancouver and spent his youth and teen years in Langley BC attending Milner Elementary and Langley High School.

He went on to VVC in the Diesel Mechanics course where he then went to work as a Marine Engineer. He worked on fishing boats on the East Coast of Canada, White Pass in the Yukon, Albion Ferry, then Sea Span tugs.

Clayton retired from Sea Span as a Chief Engineer. Along with his wife Heather owned a small corner grocery store in Abbotsford from 1979 – 1984. He raised his family in Abbotsford and Maple Ridge BC.

He retired in White Lake BC where Clayton and Heather lived out their happiest years. He loved fishing and relaxing on the Lake as well as volunteering with the White Lake Volunteer Fire Department.

Clayton will be remembered as Gumpy to his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his cheeky sense of humor and that “twinkle” in his eye when he was about to say something quite funny or come up with an idea for an invention or a prank to pull on his wife.

He was quite artistic. He made pieces of furniture, tied his own fishing flies and made toys for the grandchildren. He welcomed one on one chats quite often accompanied by a beer or a sip of his favorite scotch. He will also be fondly remembered for whistling “A Teddy Bear’s Picnic” when he was out in the yard or his workshop.

The last four years it was hard to watch my dad, who was always so strong and clever deteriorate the way he did. But I wouldn’t trade that time with him for anything. Our trip to the Yukon – fulfilling a bucket list trip for Dad as he was a huge fan of the show Gold Rush was something I will cherish for the rest of my life. ~ Stacie

Thank you to the staff at Hillside Village for your compassionate care and patience with Clayton in his final days. Thank you to Dr. Attie Heunis for your kind and patient care of our Dad, you went above and beyond for him.

Squire, Edison “Ted” Ashton

July 22, 1938 – May 10, 2024
at the age of 85 years:

Prologue
Tappen Valley Growers
T – Ted, V – Vicki & G – Girls

Ted has swung into the saddle astride his trusty steed ‘Mac’ and, along with his beloved Bouviers, headed off into the wild blue yonder. Along the trail he will meet his older brother Art and his sister Meredith, who had journeyed on ahead of him.

At the crossroads, Ted will join company with his cherished friend Big Jack Chupa and together the two will turn their horses into the wind and gallop off across Heaven’s Range.

At least that is how I intend to imagine it ~ Vicki
——————————————————-

Born and raised in the rural community of Cottam, Ontario, Ted was the second of seven children born to Ed and Ruby Squire (nee Kelly).

Ted had a wonderful childhood as a farm boy. He and his brother Art worked hard on the family farm. Their home was just steps from school and church with plenty of room to roam; there was ample opportunity for fun and hi-jinx with siblings and friends. Ted was full of stories that he loved to share, and share is what he did!

His young adulthood had him starting several small businesses, then onto hair stylist, and finally to a career with L’Oreal as Western Canada’s Manager of the Salon Division and Hair Colour Expert. Ted travelled extensively with L’Oreal across Canada and to Europe, most notably enjoying his times in Paris.

His office was downtown Vancouver, and his hobby acreage was in South Langley. There he established ‘Delylse’ Registered Bouvier Kennels and took part in the show dog circuit.

With close friends, Klaus and Carol he started ‘La Vallee Growers Ltd’. They propagated many wine grape varieties and, thanks to a contract with the Summerland Research Station, they were able to propagate many unique seedless table grape varieties which were sold to start up vineyards and nurseries. Many of these vines are still growing at Recline Ridge, Larch Hills, Domaine de Chaberton, and Celista Vineyard & Winery.

In 1993, Ted moved to Tappen with Vicki and stepdaughters Emily and Kate. He established a small vineyard to propagate wood and for grapes to sell at farmer’s markets. He also returned to his boyhood passion for growing tomatoes. He was a master and became affectionately known as the ‘Tomato King’, winning the Salmon Arm Fair Trophy many years in a row. He loved participating in the fair and farmer’s markets, where he established a loyal following of locals and returning vacationers looking to enjoy his delicious tomatoes!

In the early years of residing in Tappen, Ted enjoyed the close friendship of Jack Chupa, good neighbour and haying partner, and also friendships made while on the Tappen Co-op Directorate. He shared Co-op duties with Jamie Gooch, Joan O’Brien, Jim Wright, Reg Charlesworth, and many other community minded residents. He loved it all!

He loved his horse Mac, a most remarkable animal, and his many Bouviers and all things farm, returning to the joys and work ethic of his childhood.

It has been a long and difficult time since Ted’s disastrous fall in January 2021. Lewy Body Dementia took his ability to walk and forever after his mind played tricks on him. Through it all Ted maintained a cheery disposition and positive appreciation of his care. He was truly blessed to have been a resident of Mt Ida Mews, Coho Crescent Floor, where the care aide and nursing staff are nothing short of Angels. No amount of thanks and gratitude would be enough.

And last but not least, from the very depths of our hearts, we extend our sincerest thanks and gratitude to Dr. Adriaan Heunis for his energetic, optimistic, and jovial care of Ted for so many years.

Ted leaves behind ‘the ball to his chain’, his wife of 31 years, Vicki, and stepdaughters Kate and Emily; his four siblings in Ontario; his sister Sherron, his fifth birthday present sister Connie and Bro-mance brother-in-law Ed Meszaros, brother Bryon (Precious Pam), baby sis Beverly, nieces, nephews, and countless friends near and far.

As there is no service at Ted’s request, please do raise a glass of wine from a local winery in memory of him and his wonderful, well-lived life. Not a drinker? Just blast any country music and dance like nobody’s watching and sing like nobody’s listening.

Ted, you will be greatly missed. Godspeed, Squire.

A celebration of life will be announced closer to Ted’s 86th birthday this summer.

Johnny, Katherine Agnes

Johnny, Katherine Agnes

April 11, 1960 – May 8, 2024
at the age of 64 years

Celebration of Life:  Sunday, May 12, 2024, 11:00 a.m., Pierre’s Point Long Building

Katherine A. Johnny was born to Herbert and Vera Johnny on April 11, 1960, in Salmon Arm, BC.
She has many fond memories living with her Granny Regina Kenoras where she was Baptized into the Catholic
Religion. Her God Father was Joseph Johnny, who loved her dearly.  She came back to the Switsemalph
community at the age of 14 and lived with her siblings after her mom passed, staying at home until the age of 17, moving periodically to Kamloops with Phyllis and Vancouver.
In February 1980 she gave birth to her first-born daughter Adrienne Josephine Johnny. She was named after her two uncles Adrian and Joseph Johnny.
In December 1981 she gave birth to her baby girl Vera Leigh Johnny who was named after her grandmother Vera Johnny. Leigh was her favorite name where Vera is almost named Leigh.
Granny Susan came and spent two weeks with Kate after each of daughters were born.
She resided in Vancouver in 1985 to live closely with her younger brother Gary Johnny so her 2 daughters could get to know him. 1986 she moved back to Salmon Arm at her permanent residence to raise her 2 daughters.
Her daughter Adrienne made her a grandmother in 2003 with her first grand daughter Desiree Dick. Followed by
Cherish in 2004, Kirsten in 2005, Aurora in 2006, Mason in 2010 and our baby Ann in 2012. She was happy to become a grandmother and was adamant to see them all graduate high school she witnessed the three oldest grandchildren graduate. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and wouldn’t let them get away with
anything – Vera and Adrienne could contest this. Anything for her babies!
In 1994, Michael Johnny came to live with his auntie until he graduated in 1997… he was the only boy living in a house full of girls where he was blamed for being late for the school bus and having to run down 50th Ave to catch the school bus.
In 2005, Andrea and Susan Johnny came to live with their auntie up until they graduated. Andrea graduated in 2007 and Susan graduated in 2009. Andrea, Susan and Mike were children to her late sister Christine Johnny.
She had a few good friends and many adventures with Charlotte and Theresa, who are the few to mention and many more who have passed on before her.
Some of the memories that all the kids in Kate’s life were that she always had a door open and she always made sure that you had a place to lay your head and a meal to eat. I am sure that at one point Kate had at least 6
separate  families in her house. And another memory is between the girls there were 12 kids and 10 adults there for one of the Easter family Bar-B-Qs. She always loved having all the kids under one roof.
The majority of the kids’ friends usually loved coming here and visiting her and knowing that they were
welcome to come to her house.
Her favorite pastime was 420!! Hee-hee many will know what that means. She also loved to spend time at the casino and bingo until it was too uncomfortable for her to bear. She also loved becoming part of the Elder’s group where she was able to call bingo for fundraising. They went on a few trips, one was to Seattle for a Blue Jays baseball game, the Mariners against the Blue Jays. Another was to the Elder’s Gathering in Vancouver, BC.
In 2004 she was diagnosed with breast cancer where she chose to have a mastectomy where she survived and beat that battle with cancer.  She continued to a live a healthy life up to November 2023 when she was
diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer as well as other major organs. May 8, 2024, is when she lost her battle with cancer in her home surrounded by loved ones.

Katie Lady Rest in Peace you are now cancer free, and soul is free – Fly High!

Thomson, Avalon Imogene “Loni”

Thomson, Avalon Imogene “Loni”

February 1, 1926 – May 5, 2024
at the age of 98 years

Memorial Service:  Saturday, May 11, 2024, 1:00 p.m., River of Life Community Church, Blind Bay:

Avalon “Loni” Imogene Thomson was born on February 1, 1926 in Hayti, Missouri, USA, near where Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky come together in the Missouri Boot Heel. Hayti was less than five miles from where the Mississippi River is over a mile wide. She lived in the same location until she was eleven. Her family operated a general store, while her relatives and neighbours included farmers, share-croppers, Ozark Mountain people, and grandchildren of slaves.

She lived in the same place with the same school friends until the age of 11. The family then became mobile, so she attended schools in Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, California, and Nevada.

In Nevada, she had the opportunity to work as a waitress in the mining town of Gabs Valley. By this time, she had shortened her name from Avalon to Loni.  A handsome young man who frequented the restaurant caught her eye, and she his, and so began the courtship of Irvin Thomson, aged fifteen, and Loni, aged sixteen. Irv had come to work at Gabs Valley to provide financially for his mother and siblings. It was war-time, and youthful marriages were common. So, they married, on May 27, 1943 when she was seventeen and he was sixteen. What isn’t so common is the fact that they stayed married for seventy-nine years, until Irvin’s death in 2022.

The young couple was soon joined by their first child, Randy, in 1944. Soon after, Irvin was drafted.   Loni lived in Tonopah for eighteen months while Irvin was in boot camp and overseas in the Philippines, right after the Japanese surrender.

After being re-united, and still essentially newly-weds, they based themselves near Irvin’s relatives who had recently come from Canada. While Irvin worked a variety of jobs, Avalon continued to find ways to help support the family with jobs such as waitressing, house cleaning and providing childcare. Her most important role was that of mother to Randy, as well as Greg (1947) and Geoff (1950), who completed the family. Thus, they settled into post-war suburban family life. What adventures Avalon and Irvin had in store for them!

In 1950, Avalon accepted Jesus as her Savior. She was at once a passionate disciple, making Christ known to families, friends and neighbors, an avid Bible student, and a passionate children’s ministry worker who provided Christian Education to school children and teaching Sunday School.

In 1957 Avalon and Irvin read a magazine article about the Chilcotin region of British Columbia, and there was a seismic redirection in their lives. Their first visit to the Chilcotin consisted in eight weeks of camping, fishing, and joining in the world of local ranchers. In 1959 they bought a small ranch, and in 1960 were themselves ranching, using horse-drawn equipment like their neighbors, and shifting from a modern, suburban lifestyle, to that of pioneers. Loni also found that the Gospel was largely unknown in the area, and the Sunday School she started in 1961 developed into a church in four or five years.

For the first two years after buying the ranch, Loni and Irvin spent part of their time in Los Angeles raising money to develop their ranch, and the rest of the time developing the ranch.  They then ranched full-time until 1976.  She became lifelong friends with her neighbours and was known for her great hospitality.

It was during this time that she began another role that she greatly enjoyed and took seriously, that of a grandmother. From the birth of her first grandchild in 1968 onward, the grandchildren kept coming, and each has been loved dearly. They include fourteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and twelve great- great grandchildren.

By the time they were caring for over 100 cow-calf units, they decided to try their hand at something new. They purchased a café at Nimpo Lake and built a twelve-unit motel next to it. That remained their project until retirement in 1990. They then settled for a few years on a small acreage near Barriere, British Columbia, where Loni continued building her reputation as a great hostess. In the final two decades of their life they enjoyed their house in Blind Bay British Columbia, just a stone’s throw from the Shuswap Lake.  They were active members of the River of Life Community Church.

Irvin went to be with the Lord in July, 2022, following a stroke. Loni joined him in the Lord’s presence May 5, 2024. Besides her many grandchildren, she leaves behind her son Randy, son Greg, and daughter-in-law Angela, as well as her niece Becky. Waiting for her in heaven were her parents, two sisters, brother, son Geoff, Granddaughter Heidi, Great Grandson Sebastian, and many more dear friends and relatives.

Dean, Ruth Ann

Dean, Ruth Ann

Sunrise 3:14 am March 17, 1956 ~ Sunset 10:27 pm April 13, 2024
at the age of 68 years:

Our beloved mother passed into the moon, stars and heavens above at the North Okanagan Hospice House with her 3 daughters and brother by her side.

She is predeceased by her grandson Gabriel Kelly and her parents Wilma and Dalt Dean. She is survived by her three daughters Heather (Craig), Shannon (Lee) and Andrea (Elmer) and her grandchildren Yvette, Jacinta, Rowan, Solomon, Jade, Jared, Lincoln and Lennox, her brother Bruce (Maryann).

Ruth was a tactile artist and found great joy in creating her art, alongside her green thumb and her love of plants and gardens. She was always thinking of others and enjoyed sharing her knack of special gifts including grandma’s recipes.

Ruth was loved by so many, including her community and friendships she built throughout her life. In her last days in hospice, she was so grateful to be visited by her favorite people (including her beautiful cousin Karen Nye). Ruth told everyone how happy she was and she was having the best days of her life, throughout her pain she was surrounded by love.

“We all think it’s the big moments that define our lives ~ the promotion, the new baby, the kitchen renovation, the wedding ~ but the narrative of our lives is written in the small, the simple, the common, the overlooked, the discarded, the reclaimed.

Life is not made of minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years, but the moments, you must experience each one before you appreciate it.  Savor the sensations whether shampooing hair, cooking a meal or taking a walk.  These moments whether happy, routine or even painful are life’s heartbeats. ❤

Gratitude and heartfelt thanks from Mom and family to Dr. Noah Massa, Dr. Ed Hardy and all the staff and volunteers at North Okanagan Hospice Society for their care and support.

We ask, should you wish, to donate to the Vernon Hospice Society or plant a flower in her memory.

The world is a little less sparkly and bright without you here Mumma

Desloges, Georges Leopold Lambert-Emile

Desloges, Georges Leopold Lambert-Emile

November 17, 1935 – April 10, 2024
at the age of 88 years:

Georges passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Fabiola, daughters Denise, Colette, Suzanne, Nina (Todd), grandchildren Jennifer, Laura, Katie, Erika, Deanna, Darcy, Samantha, Stephanie, Robert and Amanda, great-grandchildren Heidi, Camille, Leo, Watson, Daisy, Eva and Sabrina, brother Andre, sisters Gilberte and Daisy and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Maurice and Camille, his brother Alain, grand-daughter Alexandra and son-in-law Terry.

Georges was born in Arlon, Belgium and immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his family as a teenager where he began his career as a painter with his father and brothers.

He met Fab on a double date with his cousin Lisette and Fab’s brother Clement for a Sadie Hawkins dance. They married in September 1956 and eventually settled in St. Norbert to raise their family.

He later fulfilled his dream of living in BC to retire when they moved to Salmon Arm in 2006.

Georges was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion since 1993 and also a member of the Belgium Club where he and Fab went to many functions which ignited their passion for ballroom dancing.

He also loved Tai Chi, bowling and golf.   He enjoyed trying new hobbies such as Japanese cooking, refrigeration repair and small engine repair to name a few. He took after his father as an artist and enjoyed painting with acrylics and trying his hand at airbrushing on canvas.

He left us with many precious memories of snowmobiling, downhill skiing, going for rides on his motorcycle or scooter and many summers spent at Gull Lake boating, waterskiing, tubing, barefoot, disc or kite skiing and fishing.

The family would like to extend our thanks to Vaughn and Pat, Dr’s Keith and Laura Hepburn, and the staff at Shuswap Lake General Hospital for their support, concern and kind care.

No service has been planned at this time.
