Joe was definitely an entrepreneur! He always had to know what was around the next corner to see and experience.
He enjoyed hunting, the outdoors and loved fishing and camping.
Joe was definitely addicted to computers. He kept in touch with facebook. Hours were spent happily listening to Andre Rieu’s and Austrian music concerts.
After they moved to the farm in Joe Riche (near Kelowna), he and Pearl—always a team—raised hunting hounds, security dogs, emus, ostriches, horses, goats and chickens. They made and sold a line of emu oil products.

Gisela passed away peacefully at Hillside Village on March 30, 2015 at the age of 91 years. She was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany and in post-war years worked as a drafts person/technician for a manufacturing firm in Esslingen Germany.
In 1966 she immigrated to Canada and married Reinhold, whose career took them to many exotic places in the far East. Returning to Canada, they spent years in SK, AB, and BC enjoying travel and social life with many acquaintances and friends.
Gisela was an expert seamstress and dappled in scenic photography. As a lifelong companion of dogs, she was predeceased by many canine champions… her last, Max. She loved and respected all animals and she spent as much of her life as possible outdoors during her frequent walks.
Gisela was feisty and independent, with a dry sense of humor that at times was unexpected. If you had the patience to get to know her, she as a loyal and generous friend. Gisela was proud being a Canadian; a highlight of her life was when she became a citizen of Canada (1970).
We became acquainted with Gisela at a difficulty point in her life and came to know a spirited lady quite by accident. We will treasure and remember friendship shared with her. It was a special kind of journey walking and being part of her life as a widow.
She is survived by her stepson Kurt Schmidt of Leduc, AB as well as friends Brenda and Joe.
No service at her request.
Many grateful thanks to the kind and compassionate staff at Hillside Village for adding light to her life for three years. Thanks also to Curtis Horne who made her laugh and added to the quality of her life in her twilight years.

Theresa was born in Timmins Ontario, on Feb. 17, 1937. Her Parents Joseph and Annette both came from Quebec, Grandpa from Montreal and Grandma from Quebec City.
The Mining boom was on in the 40’s which is why grandpa pulled up stakes and headed to Wawa, Ontario, where there was 13 children living at my grand parents place.
Mom (Theresa) was a housewife and had four children Diane, Don, David, and Debbie. She sent them all to Roman Catholic school as mom was so committed to Mother Mary she wanted to make sure we had faith in our souls. And, we all do thanks to her……
After the kids got older Mom took on a job and worked in the restaurant business for 40 years. Her life was her work…she loved her soaps and you could not make a squeak when they were on or you would get that look.
Theresa lived most of her life in Wawa with stints in Kapuskasing, Timmins and Toronto. Her final place of residence was in Salmon Arm, BC for about four years or so.
Theresa was afflicted with dreadful disease called Progressive Nuclear Palsy (PSP). A neurological disease with no cure as of yet.
Knowing her prognosis, we had the opportunity to have all her kids be near for her 78th Birthday, which was Feb 17th.
Theresa succumbed to the disease but fought it with such grace and smiled her way thru it. She once said you have to play the cards you have and that she did.
Theresa was surrounded by such a big family when she moved to Salmon Arm and was full love when she passed. I know firsthand as I was one of the family that was there.
The family would like to thank all those who helped Theresa, thru her journey, a special thanks to all nurses, LPN’s, and care aids at Hillside Village all who understood Theresa was trapped in a failing body, your care and empathy helped her in the most positive way…Memorial donations in Theresa’s name may be made to the Good Samaritan Society, Hillside Village, 2891 15th Avenue NE, Salmon Arm, BC, V1E 2B6

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Ernest Cox, born April 26, 1924, in East York Township, York County, Ontario. Harold passed away at Shuswap Lake General Hospital on Friday evening, February 6, 2015, after a brief battle with Congestive Heart Failure. Harold, a long time Salmon Arm resident, is survived by his wife Mae, children Bev (Dan Gienger), Peter, Evelyn (Byron Fritzler), Jim, Mark (Gloria), and Elaine (Kelly Bury). He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, as well as four great.
Harold grew up years in Hines Creek, Alberta, where he spent a lot of time in the bush, working trap lines. In 1950, Harold moved to Celista, British Columbia, and earned his living driving a Cat and working in local mills. In 1952, he married Mae, and shortly afterwards moved to Salmon Arm. Harold spent 31 years working for the City of Salmon Arm, ending as the foreman of the roads department
Harold had a great sense of adventure and love of the outdoors, enjoyed falling trees, gathering fire wood, and burning wood in his wood stove. He was also an avid gardener, growing fruit, vegetables, and rows of daffodils and irises each year
One of Harold’s greatest joys in life was his family. He lived his life in a patient and caring way, demonstrating what it means to sacrifice your own desires for those you love. He enjoyed a close relationship with each of his children and grandchildren. Harold also had a great sense of humour, and was no stranger to practical jokes. His smile could light up a room, and his warm-hearted chuckle will linger with us all.
Harold was also a man of strong faith and lived his convictions on a daily basis. He loved God and had no fear of death, as he knew where he was going. He died assured of his salvation through Jesus Christ.
The family wishes to say a special thank you to Dr. Stacey Kirkman, whose expertise, friendship, and humour eased the medical challenges of the last few years. He made going to doctor’s office fun. Thanks for everything, Stacey. You have our deepest appreciation.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Latimer. Surrounded by love, Susan left us on February 2, 2015 at the age of 68 years. She is survived by her children Debbie (Doug), Richard (Karen), Curtis (Gwen), Michael and Kate (Brian) and her siblings Fiona, Robert (Cheryl) and Terry (David). Let’s not forget the grandchildren: Justin, Shaylee, Otto, Jenna, Liam, Aidan, Ashley, Jessee, Ty and Paxton along with four great grand kids.
Susan worked for the school district for close to 30 years. Besides her children, her job was her greatest achievement. Working as a certified education assistant and lunch hour supervisor allowed her to hold court and what better place to do that than in the hallway or cafeteria of a high school. The kids called her grandma Susan and she cherished being part of their lives.
Susan loved to shop – a lot! Family members tried to avoid at all cost, being dragged around on one of her excursions. She knew everyone and she stopped to talk to them all. She could spend an hour in Safeway and only buy a few items.
A strong union supporter, Susan served for many years on the local CUPE executive and attended many conferences as their representative. For many years, she was on the negotiating team for the CUPE collective agreement. She joked that the school board office management would hide under their desks when they saw her coming up the stairs.
If there was a cause, she’d be there – you could count on her. Susan lived to help people – in every aspect of her life. She loved her kids, her grand kids and great grand kids with all her heart. She was happiest in their presence.
A celebration of life will be held at Salmon Arm Secondary School, Jackson Campus, on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship for Salmon Arm Secondary has been set up in Susan’s name.

Tashanna is survived by a large loving family including maternal Grandparents, Jim and Elly Read of Vernon, 19 Aunts and Uncles, hundreds of cousins and many, many friends.
Tashanna was a talented artist with a kind and generous sprit. Her paintings and costumes brought life to many events. She was active in multiple causes and rallies in the lower mainland of B.C. specifically those relating to the environment, First Nations, and the social determinants of health. She was an advocate to her core.

Eleanor was truly a free and fun loving spirit. She was loved and admired by all who knew her true nature, charisma and tenacity. She loved all things in nature, an animal lover and an advocate for animals. Our heart breaks for losing such a great Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend. She lived life to the fullest, joining in on the fun where ever she happened to be at the time. She was a great listener to all her many friends, always keeping in touch by phone. Eleanor was an adventurer too, she travelled solo in her motor home in the US and Mexico in her early retirement. She also joined in on the fun, boating and sailing with family and friends on the Ocean near Powell River. Earlier years she was a teacher and taught in Peace River in a one room school made of logs in 1949 (Sunset Prairie School), Richmond, BC (1949-1952) and North Vancouver, BC (1960-1970). Her most memorable times were spent at the cabin on Sheridan Lake. Sheridan Lake was her most favorite place in the world, and she shared the magic will all who came to visit. The last ten years she resided at her daughter and son in law’s property at White Lake. There she grew beautiful flower gardens, walked her dog, fed the birds and enjoyed the scenic vista from her double wide. She lived independently next door and was still driving and maintaining her own home until shortly before her passing. She will be forever missed by her family: children; Edward (Karen La Combe) Hannah, David (Desiree) Hannah, Susan (Bruce) Whitehead, step children; Rosemary (Daryl) Farquharson, Tim (Ida) Babcock, grandchildren; Jennifer Hannah, Duncan Hannah, Sophia (Jason) Mattioli, Marian (Phillipe Klein) Shukster, Beau (Carney Varga) Whitehead, Vicki, Trudy, Stacey and Terry, great grandchildren; Matthew Mattioli, Elisabeth Mattioli, Sven Sabo “Shukster”, Laura Klein and Brenna Varga. She was predeceased by her two husbands Lewis Babcock and Glenn Hannah, grandson Robert Hannah, sister Joan Graham and parents Leslie Dixon and Annie Dixon. Greatly admired and sadly missed by many nephews, nieces, greats and cousins as well as a long list of friends.
Forever in our hearts.
A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held in April 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local SPCA.

Celebration of Life 2 p.m. Saturday, January 17 Shuswap Lake Estates Community Centre, Blind Bay B.C.
David Yule was an incredibly good, genuine man who worked hard and played hard but above all else loved his wife and kids with everything he had. He was a family man and a devoted friend; a man you could count on, no matter what.
David was born on November 13, 1965 in Calgary, AB. In his younger years, he spent time in Mossleigh and Gleichen on the family farm – these were cherished times as David loved being a farm boy. He attended SAIT and became a Heavy Duty Mechanic but his drive and determination led to more than just pulling wrenches. Before long he was self-employed, working hard with Barb to build their business in Calgary. They were a remarkable team in every way imaginable. In the late 90’s, David had an opportunity to take his skills overseas to work and they decided as a family to make it happen. It was the best of both worlds for David – he could work for several weeks non-stop which he loved, then was home for several weeks to focus entirely on his home, his family and his friends. David always loved the Shuswap – he and Barb brought the kids for vacation each summer until they finally decided to make it their home in 2005. They quickly settled into the community and developed friendships that have endured. For the past 10 years.
David worked in Russia as Maintenance Manager for the Russian Federation at Trican Well Service Ltd. When David was home, he took advantage of all the area had to offer – sledding in the winter and being out in his beloved Tige on the lake in the summer (God help you if you wore your shoes or ate on his boat).
On his last day with us, David was up in the mountains at his favourite sledding spot at Owl’s Head in Sicamous with his best friends. In his own words, “I moved to the Shuswap several years ago – what more can I say – I am living the dream.”
David is survived by his loving wife Barb, his daughter Sara and his son Jacob. David also loved his community so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s memory to: Shuswap Volunteer Fire Department, Box 95, Sorrento, BC V0E 2W0.
